AFL article on the 5 biggest comebacks ever for each club. They have missed 1994 v Sydney where we were 48 points down with 16 minutes to play. Were there any others they missed?

55 points v Western Bulldogs, round six, 2015
55 points v Hawthorn, round two, 1937
48 points v Richmond, round 11, 1975
46 points v Melbourne, round 20, 2025
39 points v Gold Coast, round 13, 2018
39 points v Essendon, round 14, 1936
We were actually as much as 51 points down in the third quarter of that Swans game so that should be number three.

It looks like they used AFL tables and for each team there is a list of games with biggest margins overcome at the end of 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters.

For games this century they have progressive scores and greatest leading margins for each team.

So for the Bulldogs game and Suns game they could find the biggest margin but for the older games they’re just using quarter by quarter scores.

The margin against the Swans was only 38 points at 3/4 time.

It’s nice to know that AFL tables is the official research tool for the AFL!

I remember we kicked the last couple of goals in the third quarter against the Swans but they got the first of the last quarter.

Channel 7 has chosen StKilda as its team to follow for Season 2026. We will see the documentary of our preseason in the lead up to Opening Round which also suggests we are going to get our Opening Round wish.
Might be trying to make up for not including us in last years preseason advertisement.
Or it could just be that we are flavour of the moment.

Strangely enough, I think all the bitter opposition supporters that love to hang :poo: on us are unwittingly doing us a favour here.
I've lost count of the times I've read an inane facebook post about St Kilda that has attracted a heap of negative opposition interaction. "Aints", "Ross the Toss", "Only one flag" etc. etc.

What the analysis sees though is 'hits', public interest. We may not be sexy, but we are interesting.

Anyone else slightly worried about the spotlight? Its the right thing to do as a club and I'm happy we are but dear god we need to make finals otherwise the amount of people coming at the club to tear them down is gonna make the "Wilkie disenfranchised, Nas moving to Adelaide, Leek Aleer's hopes dashed" narratives seem like nothing.

Wish the season was starting today, don't think I can take another preseason like last years

It has definitely created a form of anxiety amongst the fanbase, and I am sure every other club is eager to see us fall on our face after the offseason we have had. But, this is the environment we want to be in... expectation to perform at high level.

Next season will be an emotional rollercoaster, regardless of result. Most of us will go into the first game expecting more from the group. We get to create our own narrative based on our performance.

Win and the rest of the competition will give us a pat on the back. Lose and we will be seen as "same old St Kilda".

Sharman averaged 1.6 this year getting the best defender every week, Silvagni would’ve been getting the second or third best and still couldn’t take advantage. I think he’s just the typical poor-average forward turned into gun defender story we’ve seen a thousand times. Nothing wrong with that.
Still, as I said, JSos was in the ruck a lot. Sharman not when a pure forward. Sharman did a short stint in the backline a few years back, but when a forward was pretty much a forward.

The opposite. For a club that has been in drift along mode for 15 years it will bring energy and focus. Players will push harder with eyes on them and they'll feel like they have something to prove.

I find it interesting how Essendon can barely have a fit player available and put up a competitive performance with who they have left on Anzac Day or a Collingwood side down the ladder can lift in a marquee game. Players knowing how many eyes are on them seem to be able to find a gear.

Our games at empty stadiums on a Sunday arvo are the opposite. They feel like they lack energy or meaning and they play like that. We've built the side, just need to bring the energy now.

If they did it about Colingwood or Richmond we'd be all "blah blah the big Clubs get everything nobody cares about us"

Cant have it both ways

Absolutely. It also makes the marketing department’s job a lot easier. Potential sponsors would be knocking on the door. Get some early momentum going and we’ll be an unstoppable juggernaut.

First saw mention of this well before the Trade period, so they might have just got lucky picking us.
Edit - Just saw the Minga post above - I might be getting them mixed up.

Please bitch. This is normal programming for me. High as **** with hope before crashing like a junky without a fix once reality hits. Patches of hope, lowest point of despair from watching matches before doomsday warnings as we trade away our future for more false hope. Then go into irrational hope mode again. Saints footy is the greatest of soap operas.

Carlton played TDK and Pittonet together a lot so he occasionally did some relief rucking every now, hardly an excuse for such a low goals total. Sharman was stuffed around a lot early days too as a backman, wingman and defensive forward playing on the Tom Stewart types. I can see him swinging forward sometimes but if that’s what we’re relying on we’re in trouble.

IF anyone's going to be pushed forward it would surely be the Viking

I’d be building the backline around him. Defenders with that kind of potential win you flags. Hopefully between King, Marshall, Sharman and Caminiti have the forward line covered and we don’t need to swing anyone forward.
