Off (but on) topic, I can’t believe there was a Melbourne construction conglomerate named “Hooker/Cockram”. Not even gonna focus group that one guys?
Oldest construction company in Australia. They’re now Icon.

They were a client of mine for quite a few years.

Pre-season training - Feb 7th.

9:30am.

Big session this morning included 2 x 25min (give or take) halves of match sim.
The first half was A's v B's, then in the second half, they mixed it up and had a few players changed jumpers while some didn't participate.

Players MIA:
  • Steene
  • DeMattia
  • Cochane

  • Jordy came out briefly but didn't participate.
  • Mitchell came out, did some running and a few kicking for goal, then left the track.

Rehab:

  • Fin
  • Dean
  • Harrison

Both did the no contact drills, but then did running once he match play stuff started to happen. Both had no contact caps on. Though Dean had the blue one on, Fin had a yellow one. No idea the difference haha

It was very much a clear Team A v Team B.

Focus today once they finished the fundamental drills; was full ground stuff involving transition. In this one drill the whites and blacks were split up on either side of the ground and they would move the ball from D50 to F50 with the players spaced around that gave each other space and moved the ball through handballs through the middle of the ground indicating the need for the run in packs up toward the forwardline.

Then they came together in a full ground where they would then practice this transition over the whole of the ground. A coach would kick the ball to one area of the ground, generally around the pocket of D50, and the players would have to move the ball through their teammates.

About 11am they started the proper match sim, which was the longest version I have yet to see them play out some match play.
Went for an hour, and split into two halves. First one was Bests v the rest, I reckon around 25 or so minutes. Then the whistle would get blown - they would come together neat the glasshouse, some would change jumpers. For example Allan, Frampton Cox would go into the black jumpers.

Lippa, sidey and Crisp were the main wingers. WHE did spend a little time on the wing for the white team in the 2nd half of the session.
Cox played forward and ruck, as he interchanged with Smit. But then after the first half, Smit didn't come back on and I saw him leave in plain clothes from the club with a staff member so something clearly happened. To go get scans? Hopefully nothing serious. So Cox has to play pure ruck.
Mcstay went up against Cox for a good part in the ruck, and looked good. Won his fair share of hitouts and moved the ball forward. Not worried about his knee at all, I think he would be fine serving a few mins in the ruck on game day -- if we choose to go this way, which is looking increasing likely.

I've definitely coming around to changing the ruck structure to fit in Membrey, who looked very good this morning. His strength, and natural forward craft and experience I think will outweigh anything we lose in the ruck. I think Cameron is now good enough to lead most of the ruck duties and Mcstay would only need to do a few mins a quarter.

You can see why Josh has been changed from the wing to half back with his ball use. I think we'll see him and Houston form a very nice partnership as they create through HB.

generally Nick, Pendles, Perryman were the mids for the black team. But sometimes crisp would alternate between wing and inside with Sidey.

Reef played on multiple of talls including Coxy and West. He and Moore would interchange between FB and CHB.

The kids showed some good moments. West with his contested marking up forward and Hayes half forward as he dashes around play and traffic to find an option. Very high IQ. Just seems to know what to do.

Parker is looking better and better, he looks more comfident than 12 months ago when he came in with a cricket bat in his hand, trying to find his way. Has a more developed body suited to footy and has a bit of bounce as he runs alongside the ground from HB. Uses a bit of run and carry to link up in chains.

Anyone know why Daics often wears the 5 at training? Just cos he's mates with Jamie? Or because he is channeling the spirit, leadership and divine talent from Bucks and Maxwell?

LOL I asked the exact same thing a while back and I also have a Taz photo. When I saw your comment I genuinely thought I posted it and was trying to figure out how that happened. Thought I was having a stroke. Took me embarrassing long to read your username and realize it wasn’t me.

Great minds brother!
