Bruce had 2 chances to win it… streaming through the centre and should have nailed it, then just had to take possession. Kicking for goal cost us today. And what’s with the commentators…. When does a team who “dominates” have less scoring shots and win by 3 points. Not much between the two sides… just had to capitalise more on our domination of the third quarter.

Hustwaite was a beast for Hawthorn - disposal needs work but a real extricator of the footy and clearance bull who should be playing senior AFL footy somewhere - just needs to fill out a bit

Watching hawks giants now. The standard jump from this vfl match is insane. No wonder players struggle when they come into our team (though the vfl team v West Coast could be the same as vfl).

Was good to get to the game yesterday and see the whole match.. my thoughts..
Firstly, really disappointing to loose a game that we should have had in the bag. We were obviously very young playing against more seasoned and physically mature players.
In the end we got blown away in the last quarter mainly due to them clearing it out of the middle way to easily in final term.
Best players for me:

• Dev, although disposal not always great, IMO was our best player, 100% effort all day and setup a number of our cleanest forward moves.
• H Smith.. very good and mobile for a big man, great mark up forward and great technique with goal kicking. To me looks best as a tall forward and I believe should come in next week for Sam Day

Others worth a mention:

• Oscar, actually looked fit and moved well. Unfortunately doesn't always hit to advantage and still not confident when kicking for goal. Might come in next week for Fort?
• Beekin: quality player, calm under pressure.
• Zakostesly: good marking and rebound kicking off the backline, against some bigger bodies.. Looks suited in defense, worth persisting with next year onwards.
• Brain, worked hard all day and good under pressure.
• Also like the games of Lloyd, McCarthy and Ryan. Ryan may not make it at AFL level but he makes good position target and very reliable set short goal routine. Great last minute set shot goal under pressure that should have won us the game. Connor McKenna looked good in forward line, IMO would be a good replacement for Charlie Cameron

A couple of other things:

• Reville although plenty of touches wasted some key opportunities. His defensive game needs work, especially around centre clearances. Personally, I would leave him out against the physical Gold Coat next week..
• Dev and Tunstill got a special clap from team mates and lead the team off after the game. I believe they played their last game for the Lions and will be back in WA next year where they get some decent AFL game time.

Can anyone shed some light on Annable TOG.
Did he have limited time on the field or off injured?
He only had the 8 disposals.
In his other 8 VFL games this year he had 18(R11), 19, 28, 26, 22, 25, 24 (EF)

Not time on ground, you’d have to be there, but I think he played forward. Can’t remember seeing him at a centre bounce and there were a lot of them… and I think in the other games you mention he mostly ? played as a midfielder.

That sounds like his position selection did not help the Lions get a win in a close game.
