Dougie C with a lazy 6.2 today for Central Districts
Number 1 pick next year? Anyone know if Port were successful in their pursuit to get Doug Cochrane's indigenous heritage recognised and consequently add him to their NGA? We know his brother currently plays for Port and the old man played for the Power as well. Family connections to Port are obviously there.

His kicking is ridiculously good. Dunno where he ends up at AFL level in terms of position is the only concern for me. Bit similar to Lukosius in that sense but I think Dougie has a bit more to his game around the ball which will be interesting to see develop.

Doug and Cody Walker are probably the two favourites at the moment. From memory the AFL told Port to GAGF.

It would be great for my tipping if your blokes stopped shitting the bed in the second half! Devastated for Jagga, hope he comes back strong and spends the year building his frame out.
I think it will turn in the next few weeks, but who the f knows with the rotten old Blues. Some good ins next week which should help.

any exciting bottom agers in the norther academy series? has there been anyone that has popped up unexpectedly?

What I’ve read.

Brisbane’s Matthew Owen.
Gold Coast’s Archie Hill.
Sydney’s Conrad Blackwell-Smith.

Not that clued into the GIANTS yet.

Not northern states but WA look to have a very good NGA next year. Freo have Robinson and the Eagles could have 2 high Enders Kenh and McGlade.

The drafts are going to be a mess going forward.

Been saying that for 12 months now.

Teams should be happy with their academy access, with Tassie and expansion drafts on the horizon.

And you have the youngest Banfield as well next year.

How long will it be until only kids that fall under the banner of F/S, Academy or NGA get drafted into the AFL?

Good luck to any kids that don’t fall under any of these categories in the future.
Draft positions will be minimal.

The compromised 25’ draft being a good example.

Just because ‘your team’ is benefiting from it now, doesn’t mean it’s not going to be a mess and makes a shit show of the whole system. Just makes it a little more even but still a lot of luck involved

Your team will also be one of the big beneficiaries.

I agreed with the bolded part of your previous post, but you have try and find the good in any situation. Having a successful academy is a way of future proofing your team during the Tassie expansion drafts.

But imo it’s not great for the league and apparently prides itself on equalisation.

A ‘first round’ that goes maybe 35 picks plus in an 18 team league is just a dogs breakfast. So is the bid matching system ect.

Some fans can see past the it’s good for my team so it’s great for the league. It’s just not

There are so many inequities that favour the Vics and negatively impact all other teams, that I'll take what ever helps equal things for my team.

The AFL has no interest in actually addressing any of the real problems, and would rather put band aid over band aid in the hopes that it's cheaper and easier than making the hard choices that would benefit a truly national competition.

Levi West has done some nice things for Calder in the last two weeks, even been trusted to play centre square with games on the line. Kicked the go ahead goal to put Calder a solitary kick behind Northern.

190cm utility and Essendon NGA kicked 2 goals and a behind almost on the siren to draw scores level in a very encouraging debut for the Cannons.

For Northern, Harvie Cooke was busy with 20 & 2 goals, Sam Gayfer, a 194cm KPF has a massive leg and kicked 2 important goals.
