Bulldogs fans are not travelling to the MCG to watch Groundhog Day mate.

Don’t get too disheartened. The Dogs were always going to struggle last night. Hawthorn got the Dogs at a very good time and I’m sure but the time the rematch comes around the Dogs will be well stocked. By the time the return game comes around, both teams should be entrenched in the top 6 and that record should be broken.

That is insanely crazy that the now record home and away crowd between Hawthorn and the Western Bullodgs is in Adelaide!!!

its actually easily explainable.

More times than not, Hawks host Dogs at Tassie. Dogs host at Marvel, where your generally capped when you get to 45k.

Sounded like they announced 10 and a half thousand at the GWS/Rich game, which would leave this year currently about 47k short of last year’s record total, with the Port/StK game still to come.

The Hawks have only hosted the Dogs in Melbourne four times in 19 years - and one of those was a Docklands ‘home’ game.

2010 Hawks v Dogs - 47,478
2011 Hawks v Dogs - 42,198
2017 Hawks v Dogs - 48,090 (Marvel)
2019 Hawks v Dogs - 39,378

In the same time, they’ve hosted the Dogs 7 times in Launceston and the Dogs have hosted 10 games at Marvel (35,941).

One of the many quirks of the fixture.

The hold up for inking a new deal is that SA also wants State of Origin as well as gather round. I'd suggest also that the AFL are unsure whether SoO should be pre season or mid season.

Will be intrigued by Thursday night's blockbuster Carlton v Collingwood! Both teams are not in great form, cold/wet weather, I know it is school holidays atm, but people still have to work on a Friday.

Looking forward to hearing how this match is tracking via the many talented Crowd Consultants in here :)

Very limited seats plus standing room available. That said, the fact there there are still seats available a few days out from the game must be quite rare for an early season Carlton v Collingwood game?

Got work the next day, but I'll be there.

Anything above 70K would be a pass in my opinion.

In its favour is that Collingwood haven't been at the G since Round 1, so there's quite a lot of Pies fans who won't have been to a game in over a month. Carlton fans might actually be fancying their chances after our form of the past couple of weeks as well. The AFL Members is down to standing room as well.

Throw in the sheer number of people who bought tickets weeks ago when optimism was slightly higher than it is now for both teams and we should still get 70k. Which is the best you're likely to see for 13th v 16th on a Thursday night with no special occasion.

Tickets in the MCC are about 3/4 sold top deck so this reserve will be at good levels of support. It all depends on the timing of the showers from the afternoon. If they arrive from late afternoon then it might impact the member roll up.

I’m also interested to see how the Hawks v Power go in the 4.35 slot at Docklands. Could be a precursor for 2-3 Docklands ‘home’ games a season post 2027

The capacity of York Park for next weeks game against the Suns will be 8,000 to 9,000. If Hawthorn do stay (for 1-2 games) there could be up to 8 games at York Park between 2028 and 2031 given the Devils will play 6 home games at the stadium.

Weather permitting this should draw well. It’s arguably in the prime crowd drawing slot. Late arvo on Saturday.

Hawks are flying, Power just going but I don’t think this feels like a dead fixture. Anything 30,000+ I think would be considered a strong crowd. Not unreasonable to expect 30,000+ is it?

These types of things are not quirks, they are examples of the AFL’s lazy, unimaginative, repetitive fixturing.

Lets see if Adelaide can do the quad and have a 4th record crowd. Current highest H/A attendance against St.Kilda 46,667 from 1993. Highest crowd at Adelaide oval 46,082 2017.
