2026 Attendances

16,650 for Melbourne vs Eagles. 2nd highest crowd for a match between them at Marvel (out of 4 played in total though).

A couple of other ways to also spin the Melbourne Mother’s Day attendance - the 9th lowest crowd for a Melbourne vs West Coast game ever (out of 61 played discounting the COVID year match), as well as the 8th lowest attendance in history for a Melbourne game in Marvel out of 72 played (again not including the 3 COVID games).

Melbourne v Hawthorn this Saturday twilight will be a cracker. I think we should expect a crowd in the high 50’s for that one.

My God that's impressive not being a smart arse either👍

Sundays crowds in Melbourne are up against a bleak weather forecast. Up to 10mm of rain to fall, commencing during the morning. Marvel crowd might hold up slightly better than the MCG crowd.

The twilight Saturday MCG game will be hoping the NW predicted rain band doesn’t impact Melbourne during the afternoon. It looks like it could just get through before the rain at this stage.

After Round 9 (excluding Gather Round).

Question for Tiger fans who might know.. Is Dreamtime game still a fully ticketed game? Are GA members able to gain access?

Fully ticketed per this article after all the furore over the round 1 fully ticketed events.

Still plenty tickets available particularly in the Olympic.

Thanks mate 👍

Recently I was watching Freo vs. Collingwood on Mother's Day 2005. The commentator (RIP Clinton Grybas) mentions that no games were fixtured in Melbourne that day because of how poor the crowds were.

Really that's the only real solution to the problem - the demand in other states will be less elastic because there's less opportunities to see your team play and isn't at the whims of the MCC/AFL member populace.

Regarding Mother's Day: The other option I could see the AFL exploring, particularly from 2028, would be a Saturday night game overseas that gets standalone Sunday arvo coverage here.

We know a few clubs like GWS and Essendon have been tentatively (extremely so) linked to a match in LA. The time zones would work out decently for that. Not perfect but decent. Then they'd obviously get a bye the following week.

Love the concept of standing room at the footy, but not sure how it works with the Marvel stadium seating bowl?

It could look quite odd. Could they just not sell standing room tickets for behind the seats more actively and regularly.

The concorse is already way too small, and the l2 overhang too large for Standing room to really work at Marvel.

I'd love it if they removed the l2 seating behind the goals and turned them into safe standing bays. No one sits there anyway.

I doubt they're do standing on Level 2. I reckon the most likely thing is that they remove around 5 rows of seats at the back of Level 1 at either or both ends, so there's tiered standing similar to what we have in the Southern Stand at the G.

The other option is for standing bays adjacent to the players race/s to avoid obstructing the view of those seated nearby. (See my attempted illustration below. Key: Red squiggly thing denotes proposed standing bays).

Yes that would be interesting, but unsure if it could happen as early as 2028 though. Our CEO Dave Matthews has contemplated playing 1 game in USA/ India as below. Also in his interview a couple of days ago, the AFL Chair also mentioned these countries (“I think there are a couple of markets we would be interested in trying down the track."The fact Andrew Dillon has gone to India would give you one sense, and I think there is a possibility also of one market in the US”).

There are a lot of tickets left for Brisbane vs Geelong.

Yesterday I checked the cheapest ticket was $85 or so behind the goals, up to $110 on the flank.

Now they’ve been reduced to $30. It will be a shame if it isn’t full because of earlier poor pricing.

Looks like only Standing Room tickets left for Collingwood v West Coast in General Public section.

They've released more tickets in the afternoon mainly in the Ponsford Stand.

The AFL Members only went on sale at 2pm for the Coll/WC match and it's nearly sold out already. Down to the back section of the last 2 bays.

Looks like we'll get the sell out crowd that Pendles deserves, now it's up to everyone to actually fill the seats on the day and get over the mid 80s stumbling block that so many of the Pies' sold out games crash into.

I reckon it’ll hit 90k. Massive event.
