Also worth noting that our second game will be against the Dees with new Coach Steven King and gun recruits Jack Steele, Max Heath and Brody MicCheckOneTwo, but sans serial idiot Clayton Olver and global brand Pertacca TM.

Not only will it be their home game but also their first game of the season, and after the double humiliation we served them last year, you will bet they will be licking their lips to make this a big game. They might even fancy their chances!

Can someone remind me why there is this dumb Opening Round fixture where only some teams play, and games played ledger is lopsided until round 6?
Absolutely.
i see Melbourne giving us a major whack.
And i see Collingwood beating us too.
I see a rough start TBH.
We were bottom 4 last year and we've lost Steele.
Sure, we have all the new additions, but we haven't seen how they'll work.
The new machine will have to run in.

Collingwood- Loss
Melbourne- loss
GWS Win
Brisbane-Loss
Port - Win
Adelaide- loss
West Coast- win
Carlton- win
GCS- Win
Richmond-win
Freo- loss
Hawks- Loss
Sydney- Loss
GWS-win
Dogs-loss
Essendon-win
Port- win
Cats-loss
North-win
Sydney- win
Carlton-win
GCS-Loss

I say 12 wins

We finished 12th, the Dees finished 14th and have lost Oliver and Trac. We’ll pump them by ten goals.

If we lose to the Dees then there'll be some alarm bells ringing. I reckon they'll be alright this year but we should be beating them.

Friday night double headers -

ROUND 11
Richmond v Essendon, MCG, 7.40pm
Fremantle v St Kilda, Optus Stadium, 8.30pm

^Don't mind this

Hope we can make this a regular fixture for the Thursday/Friday night during either week of the Sir Doug rounds.

Lots of history with the Saints v Dockers. Let's build it into something both clubs can market as a blockbuster!!

Defend our home games and we should be pushing for top 6.

They will be shithouse.

They dont even know that they are facing a rebuild yet. Steven May is still there. Do they have any reliable forwards yet? Beavis, MicCheck and and VanRooter ain't going to cut it

Jefferson, Pickett and Melksham. They have good forwards but poor delivery.

That's not exactly a fearsome forward line. Jefferson has played 7 games and kicked 4 goals. Milkshakes had a good season but he's 34 and injury prone. Pickett will surely be playing midfield now that Petracca and Oliver are gone.

I'm selling insurance, and as part of November package, we're offering a free dozen hot cross buns pack for every freak out before Easter '26.

I suggest taking advantage.

Melbourne were imploding last year. We were dismal. Honestly dismal. Brilliantly dismal. That last quarter, which I will watch until I die is full of small moments that belie the forward thinking of our optimistic mindset.

Caminiti's atrocious kick in that put Stocker in an impossible position. Supporter: Hammer is killing it. he's building up!! Hill's brilliant goal under pressure and with few options. Supporter: Time to move past Hill. Wilson's poor season with just one good last game when the goose was cooked. Supporter: Wilson's a champ! Move Hill on! Wood's brilliant kick but his general decline since mid '24. Supporter: He is still a valuable player (I reluctantly agree with this one, but I wonder) NAS : most clangers in the team, easily far and beyond. Supporter: Who cares (again I agree) Marshall: he's never been a good forward. Suppporter: Centre half forward, here we come!. Phillipou's four decent games in four seasons. Supporter: Yep. Pou is a star!

It is just a snap shot.

We were absolutely insipid up until that last quarter against Melbourne. Worst I’ve ever seen us play and set for years of west coast level football. Even west coast beat us. Their only win. Depression was setting in and I wasn’t gonna get sucked again by pre season heroics on the training track.
And yet ……… thanks to Naz we somehow all have hope again. Even a finals finish is expected. Wow. How quickly it can all change.

You can never understand the mind of a St Kilda supporter.
We’re too scarred.
Hope and disappointment. Serious highs and soul-destroying lows.
Don’t even try.

Why bother supporting the team seriously?

If you're just gonna focus on the negatives, and waste so much of your own time (and ours) writing up these paragraphs in pre-season, why bother supporting a team unless its the reigning premiers?

Every fan knows the downsides of our decisions as well as everything you said, and if it doesnt work out and we lose, we'll all criticise anyway. You're not some sort of footy genius to identify these nor some prophet if they happen. First, the fixture and now this, atleast wait till you have a reason to be negative

You’re right.
It’s too negative.
There is some weird stuff going on in our brains, the way we do it.
I wanted to comment on that.
It’s ironic
But no intention to be a prophet.

I don't understand why people get so triggered when other fans are pessimistic. If no-one had noticed, we haven't been a very successful operation. Psychologically you'd be much better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Negativity is easy to avoid. Blanket criticism is different and really, really annoying, and so is it's 1st cousin "writing someone off too early".

A fine line, isn't it? Easy to slip over it.
But we should be able to comment, both on the situation as we see it with the team. the league etc. , as well as what other posters are saying about it and even about each other.

On balance I would prefer a mix of optimism and cynicism and all shades between. Not just a zealous group of cheer leaders.

Forums like these are one of the few places one can excersize expression. In all other sectors of the society now, social media and the physical world, it is a brutally strict creed that governs expression. A very strict march.

So i hope those that say that pre-season questions and fan fantasies are not off-limits calm down. On the other hand when inclined, I hope we know that line.

If you think here is groupthink, wander over to the politics forum.

Seriously on the free speech point: free speech doesn't mean "I can say whatever I want and no criticism of what I said is permitted". We don't have a freedom of speech problem in the world, we have a tolerance problem. The ability to discuss things behind a computer and an anonymous avatar has empowered intolerant speech over genuine, in-good-faith, disagreement. Around here this manifests itself as serious pushback to something as uncontroversial as "premiership teams usually have a player in them who is the same calibre of player as Ryan Byrnes".

But if you suggest something like "the current administration at St Kilda is the same as all the other ones who failed", you are not only going to get disagreement but well argued points to the contrary. This is not an attack on anyone's ability to speak freely; it's a response to holding opinions not backed up by a range of facts.

The pessimism I see IMO is encapsulated by one cliche: that's so St Kilda. Something will go wrong that we cannot control, which will keep us in our place. I let this pass mostly, but this viewpoint concedes all agency we have over our success.

But something like "Ross hamstrung us with gamestyle which is why we were 8 goals down against Melbourne in the first place" is well worn criticism, and if it comes from those who don't give praise when it is warranted, it's going to get called out, if for no other reason than: sport is meant to be fun. For those who don't participate, it is entertainment. If you saw the cloud instead of the silver lining of the comeback against Melbourne, then perhaps find something else to do that could make you happier, unless it is the complaining that makes you happy, in which case find others who feel the same way and avoid those for whom your complaining ruins it. When we beat Melbourne I spent the rest of the evening laughing.
