There’s already talk that all Academy and NGA prospects could be made available to Tasmania
What. This is the first I’m hearing of this.

Well if we are not prepared to pick our own Academy kids I hope the get a chance at Tassie. We have many kids and Families investing their hearts and time only to be ignored. If this continues there will be less attraction to commit to the Academy journey. It really depends on what rules the AFL decides to introduce. There’s already talk that all Academy and NGA prospects could be made available to Tasmania, which would significantly change the landscape. In that scenario, we may well lose a few players who choose to take the Tassie option instead of staying with us.
That’s why 2027 will be so interesting. If the draft is heavily compromised, it could either force us to adapt to a new bidding system or, on the flip side, present opportunities to pick up some bargains late. Either way, the rules will shape how clubs like ours manage academy talent and draft strategy moving forward.
We may have to field 18 midfielder at this rate.Could be a whole new way to football.I'll let someone else start the thread, but for now I'll put this here
Stars of the future: 10 draft prospects to watch in 2026 - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1451032
Caylen Murray
Midfielder
183cm
3/1/08
Brisbane Academy/Allies
Murray is hoping to follow a similar path as other recent graduates of the Lions' Academy, including Dan Annable, Ty Gallop and Sam Marshall, in heading to Brisbane at the end of next year. The classy midfielder has also been used across defence where his ball use and kicking stands out. He played for the Allies this year whilst also representing Brisbane's VFL side too.
Coming in 2026, Return of the Rorts.

We don't know that though, seeing the Crows added that 3rd reasonably late. Then the crows go nope we're keeping the second rounder now?
The good thing about 2027 is (so far) we seem to have a bunch of decent prospects across the field with only one real standout, Jackson Bridge, who doesn't play at a premium position. So it's unlikely we'll have top 5 players that Tasmania will take from us.It really depends on what rules the AFL decides to introduce. The club are not obligated to pick everyone who comes through. In almost all cases they've been proven right, as the academy boys who we don't select rarely go on to have long-lasting AFL careers. And I'm glad that players like Mabior Chol who have never really been a fit for where we're at, have gone on to find their niche elsewhere.Well if we are not prepared to pick our own Academy kids I hope the get a chance at Tassie. No current season stats available
Tasmania could keep teams at the top for longer. The Qld clubs could have a good chance of silverware up until 2030.

Regardless the go home factor will be brutal, I love the cold but even most Tasmanians whine about it. And Hobart is like god's waiting room, nothing much there unless you are into farms, fishing, hunting and snow.
As i say this as a queenslander, but there is no place worse for a Queenslander to live in than Tasmania. Beautiful place, but it's incredibly boring and the weather is shithouse.
You’d get in with the MONA crowd and it would be like 1920s Hollywood. If you don’t mind the Tas lifestyle and are any good, you could live like a king in Tas on an AFL salary.

Are you saying Tassie will start competing with Geelong recruit targets? Sounds perfect to me !

Yes, Tasmania is a lifestyle choice, not a destination. It's like Geelong on valium. When Melbourne friends ask me what it's like to live here I say "You remember the 1970's? It's like that". I love it but elite sporting talent.......... Got to focus on Vic/SA country kids like we did during the rebuild, for them Hobart will be a Metropolis.![]()
Interesting to hear Fages saying that the Olympic stadium debate weighed on the minds of players and their future at the club
