Bailey ❌
Walsh ❌

….

Bergman 🤔

Port look ripe for picking off now. They have an ordinary list and if Butters goes they will be pretty poor. Jase Burgoyne and get Nas a stable mate here.

I'd love to try to shake Rowston out of GWS. He's an inside mid playing as a forward. He's surely eyeing off midfield time. Wardius from GWS too. His not playing due to a knee but he's a sort of small to mid sized forward who scores for fun at VFL level. Jack Ought too good at VFL level too.

Donovaan Toohey should get on a list too. He's averaging 34 touches and 130 AF points in the VFL this year after an incredible 2025.

Port have 3 incoming academy/FS kids (Cochrane, Salopek, Pilot) who will likely cost a total of 6 first round picks over the next two drafts to draft + Rodan a bit later too

They'll get 3 picks for Butters (Cal Twomey said he expects Zak to leave) and they'll have their 2 natural 1sts across the two drafts. It'll be interesting to see how far they shed. Georgiades (WA), Bergman (VIC), JWhitlock (VIC) would all be players they could consider letting go too

How is Bergman going this year ? mid or HBF ?

Haven't watched any Port stuff

Sam Marshall is the one IMO. I hope he is our #1 priority this off-season. Not getting a game at Brisbane so would come cheap - at most a second-round pick I'd say. Ex-Sandy Dragons so we have an advantage over other VIC clubs

Can play inside and outside, elite kick, and a hard runner so he'd suit Ross' game plan. Has Hugh McCluggage written all over him

Would be an absolute slam dunk trade if we pursue it

Maybe we could grab Plugger Whitlock and Bergman. I'd love Georgiades but sounds like he wants to go back to WA.

Both guys on my list. I really liked Trainor too but the concussion stuff spooked plenty. I really loved Jagga Smith early too. He's starting to look like the player he projected as now. Would have been a good year to be a really bad side.
Or trade up! good year to do that every year - even when you don’t think it is like yourself and plenty

He's getting a bit of media attention so won't fly under the radar. Apart from Jed Walter, no other kid is getting more attention.

Once you build the bulk of the list you can start condensing picks.

Wouldn't think media attention affects his trade value too much. I think all clubs would've been aware for a long time that a highly talented Lion/Sun/Swan was bound to get pushed out eventually so it's more just media catching up rather than having any real influence

Can't imagine the Lions wanting anything more than a second given he was a pick 25

Rowston is getting games at GWS which gives them leverage

Not sure they'd hang out for compo. More just that he'll be given plenty of options.

Pou's lack of inside physicality worries me, particularly for a kid wanting to become a midfielder.

I have said it before but he should be getting ripped by the club for the no look over the head handballs. Very few advantage the team, it looks like he doesnt want to take on tacklers, it looks timid and panicking. His pressure acts or lack thereof are no where near the base line for a midfielder. Then there is his distinct lack of hurt with and without the footy.

He might make it, but he needs to start doing the tough things required of a midfielder. Otherwise he is simply going to spend his career floating in and out of games as a half forward.

Hopefully he does get there and quickly, as we desparately need these kids we are putting all our time and resources into to start having impacts.
RTB us a hard man, im very surprised he hasnt given him a pray about it yet.

Draft wishlist

Small forward= speed kills, and we have no killers up front, and NO, it's not Butler
KPD - need another besides Barrat
KPF - maybe it's Cammaniti, but I'd still prefer another developing in the VFL.
and in that order

not too worried about small defender, Stocker/LOC/Hastie

maybe we can trade for one, I just doubt we'd get anyone decent

You are just trying something different rather than moving a known quantity in there. At the moment we are playing for wins not playing the kids and throwing the magnets around. Owens probably would have needed to be trialled over the preseason at least.

Wilson looks like a guy who's special talent is run and endurance, he's quite good around goals and neat with his ground ball pick ups. He looks like a pure outside player who suits wing or high HF.

The ideal midfield set up is one pure extractor like an old school rover type that feeds the ball out from the tap, one defensive positioned mid, ideally a good tackler and able to two way run, a third mid who has ability to move out through traffic fast and starts peeling forward or finding limited space around themselves, needs good disposal to feed out. Then you have your wings- one offensive one more defensive. Then high half forwards who peel up like wings and add to the outside run.
The known quantity at the moment is that Macrae is required to play the extractor role and he is a liability these days.

Dramatic drop off in form, we just can't carry blokes that get it 15-20 times playing solely mid and have no hurt factor.

Agree, Owens should have been tried earlier, but doesn't mean u don't do it now. Build up his mid time slowly.

Wilson has shown enough for me to suggest he can absolutely line up in the centre. Big body, pace out of the contest. Lots of upside.

He plays like he’s a first year player. He might need a fresh start at another club. Its just not happening at the saints and be cant keep being gifted games.

Ross and the club said he was primed for a big year and they were hoping for a Nas like breakout. Just dont see that ever happening unfortunately.
