And of course widely reported
😡😡😡😡
This for me is the bigger frustration. Reporting within the AFL media landscape is appalling.

The treatment of Ginnivan is one of the most glaring double-standards in recent memory. Other examples include the myth that we travel so much less than any other team, constant harassment of players such as De Goey which is in stark contrast to Moore and Macdonald's recent indiscretions in Arizona and Melbourne's recent faux pas regarding Steven May, as well as the almost daily speculation over Nick Daicos' future despite him still having 3 years remaining on his contract.

Do you think it's something the club is, or should be concerned about, and if so is there a fix?

Totally ****ed. I used to be a footy nerd but I can’t stand all the ****wits and their agendas in the media now. I miss sitting down every night watching all the footy shows and listening and all the podcasts. One dumb **** will latch on to a bullshit story and the rest of the brain dead sheep in the media get 3 weeks of content out of it. Meanwhile Geelong are flying under the radar with their latest unpunished indiscretion generally

For me the annoying thing is that there seems to be a greater awareness of the various agendas held by a lot of the media personalities, however this does not stop those personalities or the administration in general from pissing in your pocket and telling you it's raining.

The rise of social media and the need for clicks seems to have generated a landscape where, much like in the political world, engagement is prioritised over integrity or consistency. In my view the AFL compounds this effect through its use of accredited journalists, which seems to be a convenient way to restrict access to independent voices who might not be in lockstep with them or the message they're seeking to promote.

And he’s got a good 3 weeks ahead. Witts, an Englishless Dogs and Briggs.
And the Weegles had no ruck of any consequence. Challenge for Grundy is to maintain the pace. Think the past 2 years he fell away a bit because he does almost all the rucking every game. One other thing that makes it easier for him is that they way they play, he can pick up the ball and there is always a mid running past at high speed he can handball to.

Cringe.

Gee it’s hard watching Ginnivan and Ollie Henry kicking bags of goals for other clubs. Throw in Stephenson and that’s a hell of a lot of draft capital that was initially successful invested and yet still managed to go out the door for virtually nothing in return. Just rotten luck, I guess.
while I dont miss any of those players it does suck that we gave them away for pretty much nothing. Should have been a first round draft pick for all 3. Throw in the couple we should have taken for Grundy from Adelaide when he was shopping himself around and that's a lot of potential talent lost. We could have had that man mountain Tilthorpe as our FF for next 10 years.

If you raise an issue about the press the problem becomes bigger. We both JDG the sexual allegations were there and withdrawn. The AFL apparently had an influence on JDG stepping away. It was bigger than mic flogs.

Interesting umpiring stats - Geelong free kicks for and against this year so far -

29 - 17
24 - 15
25 - 13
24 - 13

Total - 102 for 58 against

Does anyone think we could ever get a run like this over 4 rounds in our favour? And if we somehow did, the amount of angst that would cause?
A lot of unrewarded Hawks tackles yesterday. They could have been 2-3 goals up.

The love of media talking about media is putrid and cost cutting. It is the world of brain dead sheep. 💯 It’s shallow in nature and the repetitive nature of it makes it cheap. Lyon’s almost unconditional support of Geelong because they perform on the field _hitz me muchly. There are many.

We'd be fortunate to get a run like that across a single game of footy, let alone multiple weeks.

The game in 2025 against the Dogs when the free kick count was 33-14 in our favour is proof of this. The amount of angst and complaining from the commentary teams that night, as well as the constant display of the free kick count graphic in the second half of the game was poor and detracted from what was a great game that night.

Yes - I had that specific game in mind when I made that post.

Don't you mean you're not alone? 😂 😂💕

I stopped listening to a lot of mainstream AFL media a few years ago when they were going on about the 'state of the game' crap. It was just draining and negatively impacted my enjoyment of the sport.

I think the main reason for how things are now is the 24hr news cycle. In the past, there were only a handful of footy tv and radio shows a week. However now with the internet and social media, journos have to constantly come up with content and clickbait headlines. It does my head in.
