Training 2026 Preseason

Would the regular training watchers be so kind as to let me know the better days/times to go and watch? A mate and I are planning to head down next week.
Nothing on the website yet about training so, I would stay with Monday from 9am. The new facility is open so plenty of. Seats also available.

I don't agree that NOD can't play inside mid. The best game I saw him play for Perth was inside mid and he almost won the game of his own efforts as a 17 year old. He just doesn't seem to be able to return from injury and pick up his previous good form. imo
The key words being that it was for Perth. At Peel too he'll look decent in the guts, most of them do (apart from Brodie).

That he got tried in the centre in round 1 as a Young replacement, did poorly and was never tried again shows what the coaches think of him in that position

Maybe a run without injuries improves him as you say

If the team ever wants to push for top 2/top 4, it has to find a way to play their best and rotate through
Brisbane have done that really well with McCluggage, Rayner, Ashcrofts, Zac Bailey. McCluggage is an elite AA wingman but with Neale out he was an ever better inside mid.
J Berry does a fair job on the other wing with Fletcher rounding out the trio. Brisbane understand the value of good wingmen and like Geelong use these to move the ball quickly and with precision

He’s 4th year. Same draft as Amiss and co. It goes by the season just gone not the next season.
When does Melbourne AFLW have their best and fairest?

Or he’s packing and moving.

Has had plenty of time to pack and move to make it in time for the start of his pre season though. Even if he’s not done there’s the Christmas break to go back and get things sorted.

Im guessing he must just be sick or injured or something because he’s had an extra couple weeks off on everyone else too so a delayed start seems odd otherwise

On some level, your wingers are as important as your system makes them. High uncontested marking chain teams will have their wingers be way more involved in build-up than low uncontested marking chain teams. Player skillset goes into that, but there's a reason every Freo fat side winger this year ended up having some single digit disposal games.

Freo do it too extreme imo and will have to spread the ground with the last touch rule. And personnel wise, you'd want to have 1 of those athletic + high stamina wings with good foot skills that a few teams have (bonus if they're over 185cm). But at least as many, if not more, good teams are on the "wingers are role players" side rather than the "wingers are high involvement, key pieces" side.

He is hard to get a read on but I think he could be considered good depth in that area, if needed. Especially, if he gets to do some of his training in the area. Seems we have a fair few options to go through there now though. Must say he hasn't come on as I expected.
Everyone played poorly in round one.

Ol' Driz has sold me some candy. I was sky high on him last pre season. Not sure what to think about him at the minute.

Where does it say this?

He was drafed in November 2021. 2022, 23, 34 and 25 is 4 years.

Even if that somehow isn't defined as 4 the rules do say 'may require', not that its compulsory:

It’s always been 1st to 4th year players back a week earlier. The clubs always advertised that. A club “may require” and going off everything publicly available it seems like Fremantle do require.

So it’s always going to raise questions when a 1st to 4th year player, let alone “big” recruit doesn’t show up.

Ok now I'm totally confused about 4th year v 5th year. However all the players we have taken from that draft are training except mcvee. Raz Johnson, Voss, worner, amiss

He’s 4th year. Same draft as Amiss and co. It goes by the season just gone not the next season.
Amiss, Erasmus, Johnson and McVee are all technically 5th year.

Drafted 2021. They call it the 2022 rookie draft but it takes place in the 2021 year. Pre-season draft, rookie draft and SSP are all allocated to the next year.

So each of the above have been on a list the following seasons:
2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 (4 years) with 2026 their 5th season

Yeah I used to think it was like that too but realised a couple years ago that it’s this years 1st-4th years, not the year to come.

E.g Michael Frederick took out the 2023 1-4 year time trials in November. He played 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, so 4th year going into 5th. Same as Amiss, Ras and McVee now.

Anyway I’m sure it’s nothing and he’ll show up in the next lot of training photos, but the club hasn’t exactly been very honest with the reporting of injuries

Why isn't Frederick considered for the wing role?

I think he could hold the fat side wing at least 50% of the game. Offensively, I think it would work. Not sure if he would work defensively hard enough.

Great to see Erasmus and Johnson in the top 5. A bit disappointed not to see any of the new draftees get a mention. Would be interesting to see the top 10 and bottom 5.

FREMANTLE FIRST TO FOUR YEAR 1km TIME TRIAL FINISHES:

Time Trial 1:

1. Karl Worner
2. Michael Frederick
3. Neil Erasmus
4. Conrad Williams
5. Matt Johnson

Time Trial 2:
1. Michael Frederick
2. Karl Worner
3. Neil Erasmus
4. Conrad Williams
5. Matt Johnson

Time Trial 3:
1. Nathan O’Driscoll
2. Michael Frederick
3. Neil Erasmus
4. Karl Worner
5. Matt Johnson
Um, unless Conrad has John Terry’d his way into the time trial, I’d suggest that these are from a couple of years back?

Agree with the desire to see Freddy get his hands on the pill more, however, as he can be pretty damaging with it in hand.

Conrad Williams seemed like such a good kid, by the way. He was popular in our household for the gentle charm he exuded.
