Round 5, and the training wheels are officially off.
The byes are over. Best 18 is gone. Full squads are back, and all those little cracks in our teams that have been papered over for the past few weeks are about to be exposed.
For a month, bad scores could vanish. Weak on field spots got covered up. Teams with no depth could still pretend everything was fine because a 43 from some useless rookie just dropped out of the total and everyone moved on.
Not anymore.
Now every on field mistake counts. Every dodgy pick is live. Every bench disaster matters. There is nowhere to hide now, this is the week we find out whose team is actually good and whose side has been held together with tape and blind optimism.
The big injury headlines this week are English and Ed Richards, which isn't ideal after a season of premo carnage. If your plan was to save trades and behave like a responsible adult, you've failed.
Bubble boys this week: Finnbar Maley, Jacob Farrow, James Tunstill, Archer Day-Wicks, Oliver Wiltshire, Oscar Steene, CCJ, Josh Lai, Harry Schoenberg and Talor Bryne plus whoever gets randomly selected for their second game this week.
And then there’s Max Gawn.
All preseason people said he was too old. Too expensive. Too easy to fade. Started at about 12% ownership, did King Max. After a decade of basically being one of the top SuperCoach scorers in the game every single year, people finally talked themselves into believing Father Time had arrived.
Instead, he’s back to number one.
Of course he is.
The most predictable premium in the history of the game got doubted, and now the non owners are standing there watching a bloke they called cooked go straight back to the top. Now they're working out how to get the great man in their side.
This is the round where fake good teams get found out.
No more best 18 safety net. No more hiding a 41 on field and pretending it never happened. Full squads. Full consequences. Full honesty.
Post trades, rate the carnage, complain about your injuries, tell everyone why your rage trade is actually a genius move, and let’s see who built a proper side and who’s about to fall in a heap.
And remember, if you're going to loop your VC, make sure there's a non-playing player after your VC - there aren't too many options this week.
