Incidentally, we are told Gold Coast is a rapid growing area. On that photo, where’s it going to grow to? All bush and hills
You'll notice in that map that a fair amount of the northern Gold Coast is either underdeveloped or hasn't really been touched at all. That's the big growth area at the moment and has the added perk of only being a 30-40 minute drive from the Brisbane CBD. If I recall correctly, the prediction is for the Coomera-Pimpama region to grow from 30k to 100k by 2030, just to give you an idea of what's going on.

There is also a fair amount of high rise development occurring along the coastline in suburbs that weren't typically known for high rises like Burleigh, Palm Beach, Coolangatta etc. Then the city will continue expanding west into the Hinterland, which already began a few years ago when the mountain residents of Tamborine voted to leave the Scenic Rim council in favour of the Gold Coast council. You'll also notice a good chunk of the southern west (around Bonogin all the way down to the NSW border) is virtually untouched as well and will be an expansion area in the future.

As a whole, the Gold Coast is predicted to grow to 1 million people by 2030 and there is a lot of development occurring in the lead up to the 2032 Olympics. It's not slowing down any time soon.

This is the biggest obstacle for suns i think. Free to go to beaches like this that you can swim pretty much all season long.

Footy tix need to be ~$25 adult and $15 kids. And more at that price range

3rd team in the West lol. the 2 sides now cannot play footy,

Do you understand how the AFL’s equalisation policy works, with drafting players from anywhere in the nation, and salary cap’s which sees teams rise and fall on the field, and there doesn’t tend to be a continuous cellar dweller?

There is however a wide range in continuous off field strength (such as self sustaining revenue that excludes AFL distributions), and the 2 WA teams are in the upper section of all the teams in that more important metric, which is a greater consideration for where new teams would go?

This may eventually be an indication of the evolution of our fanbase. Obviously the twilight slot is convenient for young families but if we're genuinely competing with the beaches and theme parks for attendees, then an easy way to get around that is to scheduled more night games. Right now it makes sense to continue playing twilight games as we continue to build our next generation of supporters but if we start winning regularly then in 5-10 years it could be in our best interest to play more night games as that generation of rusted on supporters moves into the teenage years.

Short term on field problems have no bearing on long term viability.
Perth has the secondary and tertiary sponsors available, the only issue is I would start the third and fourth WA sides in the same year. Any new side will be tiny to begin with, but would likely grow to a mid-sized club decades before Tassie or Canberra (or GC) stand on their own while West Coast would continue to be a financial behemoth of Collingwood proportions and then some.

Start pushing top 4, and some night games would probably follow for broadcast reasons. Although, like other small clubs, still not very many.

No doubt but I think the AFL is also trying to be mindful of giving us a chance to win over the younger generation of Gold Coasters so our rusted on fanbase is larger when we're competing for flags in a few years from now and we'll often be playing at night. With the exception of round 1 against the Swans, all our home games have been played in the twilight/late afternoon slot this year. It's not a coincidence. We missed our opportunity with the last generation of GC youngsters and now we have another chance to win over this generation and the AFL is trying to accomodate that pursuit by giving us favourite time slots.

Looking forwrd to seeing the Tassie Devils.
It's gonna be pretty underwhelming. Home crowds of 18,000 to 19,000 for a team that will permanently occupy the lower half of the ladder and almost never finish in the top four.

Makes me laugh that Freo fans have whinged incessantly about playing once every 2 years in Launceston, but with the new Tassie team, they'll be playing once a year in Hobart. :D

No third Sydney option?
Newcastle / Northern Sydney would be the 3rd Sydney team option in the future, as you could play 8 home games at North Sydney Oval and 4 games at Newcastle to help build support from all across that region.

Will they be the 20th team option though, ABSOLUTELY NOT

Maybe it will be the 23rd or 24th team (if the AFL keeps continues to keep creating new expansion clubs).

You cannot play AFL level footy at North Sydney Oval. AFLW, probably, but it is far too small for professional mens footy (or professional mens cricket for that matter).
