Canberra Corruptors with a polly as their mascot.

Would be doomed to fail though as what young player would want to go to that dump.

The ACT and Southern NSW had 41 players at the start of the 2023 season. We would a 2-3 hour drive from dozens of players' hometowns. We'd probably play home games even closer at Wagga and Albury.

You can also buy a farm 20 minutes from Manuka Oval. We'd give the country boys an alternative to Geelong.

Canberra would have no issue attracting and retaining players.

If you are going to 22, NSW has to be in discussion
Well, it can be, but Sydney has two teams, that might be about as much as you can ask for with NSW, plus southern NSW as part of a Canberra team.

If the NT isn't viable and say, the Giants start playing 1-2 games at Newcastle per year, with promising results, where they pack out 20k odd a game and there's a lot of local interest in it, then maybe they could be team 21 instead of a second Brisbane side, which, to me, would be the clear frontrunner as team 21 ahead of an unviable NT.

Like I said, I think if we go to 22 teams, ACT-Riverina and WA3 has to be part of that, and if they're smart, they'll wait with WA3 until it can establish a more unique identity to the Perth based clubs.

So, like you said, a third NSW club can be in the discussion, but they're not a priority.

Batemans Bay two hours away versus Ocean Grove, Torquay within minutes?

Albury/Wodonga is closer to Melborune than Canberra and doesn't have Canberrans.

Did I mention surf? I'm talking about the country boys who want to maintain a country lifestyle, which is pretty much only possible at Geelong now. They can head to pretty much any other club if they want to surf.

Albury's pretty much equidistant between Canberra and Melbourne, which means everything north of it is closer to Canberra.

Wagga is five hours to Melbourne, but less than three to Canberra. One of those is an easy daytrip for family, one is not.

18 teams is better than 19. Get rid of Port Adelaide.
Prefer Collingwood to be axed then we would never hear Eddie whinge about Port wearing Prison Bars anymore ;)

Weekly bye is actually horrible.

Getting the bye later in the season would be considerable better than earlier. Extra week to rest sore players before finals etc.

Early it just interferes with consistency. I am dreading our round 2 bye, because I think it might put us behind the 8 ball the following week

The last period of time that the league had an odd number of teams and a weekly bye, Carlton made a grand final....jus sayin' 🤷‍♂️

Another reason why we shouldn't have it

We should be thinking the other way around to even up the competition. It's not popular, but stripping a licence off a Victorian team and dropping them back to the VFL has to be better than a merger or folding a team. And it has to be one like North who can't support themselves.

Groundbreaking, innovative stuff 👍

Missed opportunity for them to relocate to China and become the biggest club in the league.
Oh No Reaction GIF

True that aye. Pirates is a bit lame tho.

Port Adelaide Pandas would have been better.
Problem of the Pirates is that there already exists a soccer club.

Pirates or Pirateers would still be a better name than Power, reflective of the PA suburb.

I think 24 teams would work. Play each team once throughout the season, swapping home and away games each year. Ie. Collingwood plays Brisbane one year in Melbourne, the following year the game is in Brisbane.

have canberra as the 20th, 5-10 years later add in a third team each for WA and SA making it 21- 22.

later on introduce team 23 in FNQ based in Cairns/Townsville. With the 24th a year or 2 after 23 has been introduced either being NT or somewhere like Newcastle in NSW.

ACT, 3rd WA, 4th WA, 3rd SA, 2nd Brisbane/Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, New Zealand, Northern Territory, North Queensland.

Vic East conference
Vic West conference
Western conference: Eagles, Dockers, Joondalup, South West
Southern conference: Crows, Power, 3rd SA, Tasmania
Eastern conference: Swans, Giants, Canberra, Newcastle, New Zealand
Northern conference: Lions, Suns, Moreton Bay, North Queensland, Northern Territory

28 teams. Think bigger. :grinv1:

if we are thinking bigger… Nauru and PNG as well. Could have an Oceania Cup, where the 2 top teams from each country of Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Nauru, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu play off against each other.

Haha.

In all seriousness, I do like what you’ve suggested, but I do wish we could just relocate a club to the ACT and be done with it.

Add WA3, SA3 and NT and you can keep it to 22 teams where everyone plays once plus a couple rivals.

NT could draw on NQ as a secondary market to make more money and gain some extra support.

7 games in Darwin, 1 each in Alice Springs, Cairns, Townsville, and Mackay. It’s a lot of travel but the conditions would suit the Darwin Dingoes.

But if they can’t manufacture a relocation, then I like your location suggestions.

I’m not so sure about a second Brisbane team anymore now that the Olympic Gabba has been canned. Maybe Sunshine Coast could go it alone instead.

ACT 20
Sunshine Coast 21
WA3 22
NT with NQ home games 23
SA3 24

I’d love to see third teams in WA and SA plus teams in the ACT and NT whether it takes 24 teams or 22 via a relocation.
