Might have already been posted, but Jake favourited this, which was in response to a Jay Clark tweet about him giving Hawthorn the green light. Make of it what you will:

Hey guys, apologies for dropping by, I don't normally visit other team boards, hopefully you will forgive me.

I know GF day was boring for you guys and most neutrals. I feel like whatever happens regarding JC, we have at least made up for it by making today exciting right?

Also love the thread title!

Not having Melksham in our team and getting pick 25, Berger for free and now a chance to stick it to the Saint supporters.
Nearly as exciting as sex.

Draft day will probably be better then sex for Essendon fans.

Tongue in cheek but if draft day is better than sex you might not be doing it right ;)

Seriously though 5 picks in the top 25...wow I can't remember the last time Hawthorn did that?

This was back when a lot of Essendon people were suggesting Carlisle and a second for 5.

Saints would trade three seconds for 8.

It would have essentially meant that saints would have traded their second and probably a Ross / Hickey type to Essendon for Carlisle a a slight downgrade of their first pick.

It would also mean Essendon traded Carlisle, Melksham and a 2nd for Pick 5 and Ross / Hickey.

Keeping in mind this was there was only one horse in the race.

If JC agrees to go to Hawthorn it doesn't matter now anyway as saints will be out of the race.

- Strange that teams like Geelong and Melbourne can quickly get deals done, when there is only one suitor - These clubs may have slightly paid overs but its a matter of locking up the player.
- Somehow Stkilda wanted Carlisle who is a first round trade without wanting to give up a first round draft selection. This is appalling management by StKilda.

You haven't needed to worry about high draft selections. I'd rather be in your position and winning premierships - envious!

In saying that, if we nail some of these picks, we'll hopefully be setting ourselves up for some elusive success of our own.

If tongue is in cheek you're most certainly not doing sex right...

Personally, I hope Carlisle goes to the Hawks and then wins the Norm Smith when the Hawks inevitably make their 4th GF in a row.

Saints are such a pissant club. Very well maneuvered by Disco.

If picks are so damn important, then why the hell has Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond (though finally coming good) - stunk the competition up for so god damn long? When will people wake up and see that whilst they are very important, they are not the panacea for a shit list.

I don't care where he goes - whatever hte best outcome is for us, that is all I am worried about. If Whoreforn give us that and St Kilda continue to be flogs, then so be it, get it done.

The Hawks showing interest should change nothing about pick 5. Saints should make their best offer, if they can't beat Hawthorn's and JC is willing to play there then that's the way the cookie crumbles.

St Kilda will have only truly failed if we swap pick 5 straight.

LOL - You've failed miserably unless you give up #5 for Carlisle - it's really that simple.

Alan Richardson "I told you to get the Carlisle deal done - bombers were happy to do it on Monday and you've stuffed around"

Ameet Bains "but Alan I was getting you a better deal..."

Alan Richardson "the deal I wanted was getting Carlisle...pack your things Ameet...who hired you anyway..."

Yep - If I were Richo I would be utterly furious - list management team totally screwed him around.

It was never going to be just a 1 horse race. There is no doubt we would have been sounding out a few other clubs as well.

Absolutely. Can't believe the Dogs didn't come to the party as well - surely the Boyd contract has hamstrung them.

I am the opposite - The competition over-rates the trade value of players - Two first rounders for Treloar - He's worth pick 6 or 7.

I personally just want the best outcome for us- but in this end, even if he goes to the hawks and they 4peat, I won't feel sorry for the Saints.

They have handled this so unprofessionally. They courted a player for weeks, with no intention of giving up anything of worth for him. It should be as lesson that just because a player nominates your club, it doesn't mean you can be completely unreasonable on the trade table. I hope the saints lose him, and learn from this

Shut up, take Carlisle ffs & stop winning all the Premierships you ****ers. :thumbsu:

This is pretty dumb. Does that mean you would only pick someone who would immediately make an impact? Or that you'd trade the pick for some players we can 'enjoy' straight away?

Future first round pick would only work in the context of another decent pick being added tho

Dumb?

Wouldn't have thought so - there's so much uncertainty about what the pick will actually end up being, not only with the finishing position of the club trading the pick, but also free agency compo picks and academy picks being factored in also. Kids drafted are seldom ready to play straight away, so you are effectively having to wait an additional year before you see the fruits of your trade investment.

As I said, I'd take the bird in the hand if possible.

They had all the power they said!! Lol. How many times did we say Hawks will swoop.

Saints only have one possible offer left now. Pick 5 for Carlisle and 41.

Look at Dodoro go. Melksham deal, bang. Luenberger, bang. Carlisle, bang, bang.

That's nonsense yaco.

If you had Pick 6 you could only pray that the player you take turns into a Treloar. He may not be worth two 1st's but he's definitely worth more than one.
