I think knowing what to say and when to say it when you are trying to inspire others and get the best out of your teammates in a high-performance environment is important. I don’t think Durham is that guy right now.

Thats fair. I take a different approach in that actions speak louder than words for me, so if I see a guy prepared to run through a brick wall that would lift me up and push me more than someone speaking.

Because otherwise, you’ll have a captain saving the seat next to him on a plane for the premiership cup, doing the power stance like it’s going to intimidate anyone and allowing his team to be tortured with the theme song of the team they lost the GF to all off-season. A captain actually thought all of that was the right way to win a premiership.

FWIW I don’t think Durham is any of that (and he never really came across that way to me), but we don’t want to end up with Walker either.

Yeah, I do an extent too. This is why I aways liked Zach as captain. Durham has a bit of Luke Hodge about him the way he plays and there is no doubt he sets the right example on the field and others will follow but I've seen hims say some silly stuff off the field that has stayed with me. That said, he is young and there is no reason he won't or can't develop / mature into the role in time. I think Zach will be around for a while but I'd also be looking at Roberts and maybe even Caddy as well.

I’m on his train too. I know Caldwell is the popular choice but I think it’s the wrong choice! Imagine hearing fire the boys up with his pre match speech. I would run through brick walls for him!

I prefer Caldwell as Captain because it feels like he can lead both by example and by words. Durham is more a "by example" type of leader, which I feel is more suited to vice captaincy.

i don’t know about that, if i saw a guy running through a brick wall, id wonder why he didn’t just use the door

He’s authentic and plays with passion, and only has 1 gear. Would be the perfect skipper. After a couple more years in the system he’ll be more than fine. Tex Walker was a great captain, and he ain’t no bright spark.

Big Tex was a touch too racist for mine.

"I'm going to lean on you, Robbie, I'm going to lean on the AFL and others around me to support me."

He's a gun, and had a good day out. We'd love to have 5 of him.

But one thing he needs to fix up is he relies on his left in a lot of situations he doesn't need to.

Hodge was a rough country boy at first, but always a director of others and a clear communicator.

Durham to me doesn’t look to be that guy.

I think people just want a hardnut as a leader. Fair enough after the last years.

Caldwell doesn’t have enough credits in the bank for me. Maybe that will change over time. 🤷‍♂️

I know Jaid Newcombe was all the rage but is he the best overall mid season draft pick?

Marlion Picket has a premiership but fell as quickly as he rose. John Noble making some impact on the Gold Coast but surely Duz is 2, if not the best player taken in the mid season draft

While most of our players are stagnant when they have the ball Durham tends to take it on and go forward without shitting himself at possible contact from the opposition.

injurrrryyyyyyy

Over It Sigh GIF
