Any idea on the prospective deal? Pick 2 seemed a nudge onanistic so I assume ~20 for Myers and Colter was on the table? I'm curious about the club's attitude too.
Yep: "At one stage Melbourne offered an early 20s pick for Myers and Colyer, with St Kilda also talking to Myers", http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...al-with-essendon/story-fni5f22o-1226757618344. Personally glad we didn't take it.

And also: the club's attitude to every player is that they're required. Even Leroy.

Fodzilla.

Going by previous experience with Hooker, it seems as though the club leaves the decision in the hands of the player - Which is the way is should be.

I would imagine that after a few more years of free agency - and the inevitability that all clubs will be burnt by free agency at some stage - clubs will be a lot more reticent to appease the wishes of the player up for trade.

The players won't be able to have it both ways

Could he replace Crameri at half forward? He seems to be a similar height and build, and that kick of his makes him dangerous from outside 50, plus any of our forwards in the 50 would love to be on the end of any of his passes.

Poor hands. Otherwise I'd say yes

Is he quick enough off the mark? I think he'd struggle to get separation on the lead.

Who do you have ahead?

Not looking to start the fight again.. respect everyone will see it differently but I see it:

Starting 22:
Tall Backs: Carlisle, Hooker, Fletcher
Small Backs: Hibberd, Dempsey, Bags
Ruck: Ryder, TBell (1 Rotate through Tall ForWard)
Small Forward: Winderlich, Chapman, Zaka
Tall Forward: Hurley, Daniher (With Resting Ruck)
Midfield: Goddard, Watson, Stanton, Heppell
Tagger: Hocking
Bench: Melksham, Merrett, Pears
Sub: Howlett/EKav/Browne/Edwards/Myers/Aylett/Hardingham/NOB/Kommer

So first off, I believe Myers is a pure midfielder.. he is average as a Half Back and Half Forward...

So Midfielders I would PERSONALLY have before him include:
Watson
Heppell
Goddard
Zaka
Stanton
Hocking
Melksham
Chapman
Howlett

I also feel like EKav may go past him this season (I think he is just about ready to step up)

That is a list of 10 I would have 'before him'

Nope. Chappy is a forward, Howlett is behind him and Kav is laughable

Given our growing depth in the midfield, I'd love it if Myers could get more time and space. If the opposition is concentrating on Watson, BJ, Heppell, etc, then this would make Myers such a damaging asset.

His boot is incredible, just need to give him the opportunity to put it to good use.

If Myers could become the powerful bullocking midfielder then we could afford to play Watson more up forward. Honestly having Watson up forward is a nice luxury because he really creates problems for opposition defenses but its no good if we can't get the ball down there.

Well I did say EKav was my 'roughie'..

Also I had Chappy on the list.. because there is only 4 'in the middle' at one time.. so it is precisely because Chapman can play forward but also do some short stints in the guts that he made the list before Myers...

But I assume from that response that you agree with the other 7.. so that still makes Myers the 8th choice midfielder.. which will see him struggle for a permanent place in the best 22 unless he adds something else to his game...

I would also strongly note that I was happy to re-sign him and think he is an asset at this stage..

Since Hird took over as coach, Myers has never played VFL. Struggle to get games? I think not

Whoops ... I forgot the Melk. I put O'Brien there as a defensive mid of 189cm with elite endurance, also growing up a forward means he'll be good at the one v one required of a tagger (like Ling). I would like to add an Edwards or Colyer. Someone with break away pace.

Myers fits in as our 20-21st best player. 7-8th best midfielder and that gets him a game every week. He wont really get any more opportunities than last year unless injury happens to our bigger bpdied midfielders in Watson, Hocking or BJ. Hes probably gone pass Howlett but Melksham is certainly ahead of Myers after last year.

That is probably all I was saying KA.. at Myers is, at this stage, one of the last guys picked.. in that 'bubble' group that is open to change...

Put it this way.. if you are the 21/22 guy.. you wouldn't feel great especially with guys like EKav, NOB, Edwards, Aylett, Coyler etc etc all looking to get a place in the team..

What may work in his favour is that Bomber loves 'big bodied' midfielders... what may work against him is that Bomber also loves players who can play in dual positions (ie must be able to stay on the field for rotations)...

As to the Howlett debate.. Benny was probably our best mid for Rnds 1-6 and then went off the boil and was struggling big time by rnd 18 onwards... there is talk of niggling injury etc etc.. so potentially if he puts in the same effort for longer this year.. he gets a game... if you look at the tape of Rnd 1, Howlett is the main reason we win against the Crows.. and again in Rnd 2 he was dynamite.. So very interesting times ahead..

Myers is capable of playing on a back flank and you can always play an extra mid off half forward. With Crameri and Gumby gone I think you'll find that Watson will spend more time forward than ever. I also hope that Goddard rotates through there too. Myers will get plenty of opportunity in the middle.

I think you are right in one respect, that our forward line will determine how much time Myers gets...

IF we are forced to send either Watson or Goddard forward for large chunks.. then yes Myers gets games, however IF Winders/Chapman/Zaka do the job then potentially you won't need that.

In one way it all depends on whether Hurley stays injury free, whether Daniher can handle serious minutes and whether TBell has an impact up forward.. if any of the 'big 3' go down.. then yes Watson or Goddard will be forced forward and Myers goes into the middle.
