Tigers surge past 2003 membership tally!

Just two rounds into the new season, Richmond has passed last year’s membership tally, and now has its sights set on 28,000 members for 2004.

At the close of business last night, the Club had 25,426 ticketed members, compared to the 2003 final total of 25,062.

The Tigers are currently 24.6% ahead of where they were this time last year when they had 20,402 members after Round 2.

With more than two months to go before the June 15 membership cut-off date, and still 10 home games to come, the Club is extremely hopeful of giving the 28,000 figure a decent nudge.

“The membership department has done a great job with our membership rewards and recognition program, and the Richmond supporters have again shown their tremendous commitment,” said the Tigers’ CEO, Ian Campbell.

“Look, we’re in the process of making major changes at Richmond, and restoring this club to where it should be. But it takes time to get everything right.

“Some things have moved quicker than others, but when we’ve had a level playing field, as in the case of membership, we’ve absolutely been able to provide a positive program for our supporters, and great value . . .

“What our excellent membership increase has shown is that when we are able to do things correctly, then the great supporters of the Club – the Tiger Army – will support us in droves.

“And, that’s what we’ve got to do. We have to prove to them that we are on the right track, and we’ve got a lot of work to do.

“It isn’t easy – it is a long, tough task. And, I must admit, in some areas it’s been tougher than I thought.

If we won some it would be great. The good thing is the membership is still worth it finacially. I think it is around 7 games to go that the membership cost breaks even with the number of home games.

That is when it is cheaper to buy a ticket at the gate rather than pay a membership

Hmmm.. they seemed to be averaging about 70-80 members a day.

If that continues until the cut off date which is mid June (?) then they would get close to 30,000 for 2004.

Which when you think about would be an absolutely amazing/stunning result.
