Player Watch #27 Thomson Dow - Delisted

Watching it on TV, i actually found it a bit hard to tell where he was playing - was it more hbf/wing - or mainly through the middle? I actually thought that the "less" I saw him, the better he played & the more he influenced when he did get called upon.

he needs to get some bloody power and strength in his arms though. The 9 tackles he laid is his most impressive stat-line - but imagine if those 9 tackles actually hurt or even did more than create a stoppage etc? He needs to make 9 tackles mean more in the way Jack Graham once did. If he can find a way to take a flank or wing role that would be really interesting for his career.

9 disposals and 5 tackles in the last quarter alone. Stood up
I didn't mind his practice match. This game I noticed Dow emerging from packs and kicking it out of defence. Twice to oppos but Carlton 1.6 in the last qtr, just couldn't finish the game.

Last qtr our team looked pretty dogged when the ball was parked in their fwd half. When it did rebound Mansell Lalor, Campbell were great

His 4th quarter was an 8/10. Great hands, aggressive at the contest, and insane pressure but still kicked a couple of howlers.

His first 3 quarters were very very bad. Let's not forget this. But need to commend his intensity and pressure in the 4th. Was double nearly everyone elses.

On a night where so many fumbled,
He was so clean and sharp.

Looked quick, cracked in. Best game ?
Dow is never going to be a game changing wing/midfielder, but he can play a role in the same way we used Brandon Ellis but with more desire for the contest.

What I mean by that, is you get him to play a role that sees him cover the ground between back pocket and half forward, provide a link up option when involved in chains but he has the ability and willingness to get his hand & knees dirty and fight for the contested ball, that Ellis never really enjoyed.

I think we have a nice group of players to develop as wings with Hugo Banks Trezise & Clarke joining Dow. Now it's up to Yze and the coaches to find out which 2 are the long term answer for the wing role.

Agree!! Just watched replay....Dow tackled TDK in their F50 buried him into the G turf. Watched him during the match and was committed as the rest of the 22. It'll be interesting to see how the team grows from this win?

He needs to go watch every bulldogs game and emulate Libba

Thats the exact player he needs to aim to become to have a career
How are his fingernails?! Length?!

afl.com had Dow with 27 pressure acts. Graham & Taranto usually got high numbers.

2024 Dow averaging 2.3 tackles & 16 P/acts

Yeah im serious. How many of those 9 tackles resulted in a HTB or turnover?

When Jack Graham got 9 tackles, you saw the impact a lot more than Dow. Its not to shit on his performance, but to underline the same thing so many of us have been saying for several years. If you game is going to built around laying tackles and getting "in & under" you need to start physically fitting into that role.

Dow is only 1 year younger now than Prestia was when he arrived in 2017. Physically, they are not comparable at the same age. Grahan & Ross for example were already far more advanced physically by the age of 21 than Dow is now.

for him to be a effective player in the role he has, he needs to start physically resembling those blokes. Its great to see the effort their though, that is a great sign

He will never have the build of Prestia or those types and not does he need to.

He will always be wiry, its genetics, I guarantee he is stronger and lighter than the fat ****s on here saying he is too light.

Take a look at Marlion Pickets build. He wasn't built like Prestia or Graham but was a superb tackler.

Exactly, its so short sighted to base build on ability.
