Yeah nah....

And you make the good calls ?

In 7 years the highest goals he has kicked in a season is 17...

He is a permanent small forward...

not a part mid/part fwd, like Higgo.

Stats dont lie....You cant argue with them.

But as you say, Kayne is blessed with an excellent tank. Then why not include him in the midfield rotations for a quarter?

But then we are robbing our forward line of a gun goal sneak....

17 goals from a specialist forward. Pathetic. Move him on.

I think we will leave the crap calls to you.

You are so good at them.

Bit of a change.

Update on Turner.

So he injured his foot in the preseason game against the Dogs. This was on Feb 21.
By the time we found out on the Monday that it was serious, he was sent in for scans the following day and that confirmed the issue.

At the time the choice was rest or surgery. It was initially thought he would be back playing sooner rather than later (6-8 week layoff), as surgery would have ruled him out until June 15 (our original bye). Basically a 16 week injury.
He would then needed to have built up his running over the next four weeks after our resumption via a mini preseason and then 2 VFL matches. Effectively meaning a round 20 return, which would be coming up next week.

Well that 16 weeks rest and 4 week conditioning period plus 2 week seconds footy has just expired. We finally got a Turner update Friday and he is AT LEAST two more weeks away now from resuming scratch matches, as some awareness has been found in his foot.

The sheer incompetence of this football club, choosing not to do the surgery - when every campaigner on here knew it was the poor choice is astounding. It was a stupid call at the time and a selfish one, either by club or Turner or both. We now sit here knowing there’s potential he might need post season surgery. That’s only if he’s still on the bloody list which at this stage is looking shaky. Amateur organization doesn’t even begin to describe this football club when it comes to injury management.

We miss him enormously.

I'm very bullish about a forward line of:

Turner, Brown, Scott
Zurhaar, Larkey, Taylor

There's actual defensive pressure & some leg speed there. It's a good balance.

Good writeup tazaa.

It's damning. As you say, we commented on here at the time it felt like the club were applying their usual wishy washy approach and this would eventually end in things not resolving anyway - pretty much like every other long term injury to befall our players.

Here we are months later, issue unresolved and player not yet playing. Brilliant.

Interesting that we put Thomas in pretty much straight away.

Lesson learned ?
Unless there's some inside knowledge of the situation this continual potting of the club's medical decision making is just a whinge. If Kane was advised that it was 50 - 50 whether to go surgery or rehab it's not surprising that he would have chosen rehab. Surgery is usually not a guaranteed outcome as is being implied. Thomas has a different injury and prognosis. Apples and oranges.

True. Maybe being OOC at the end of the season, Turner wanted to give himself some sort of opportunity to play.

My hunch is that Kayne took the choice that could get him back on the field the quickest.

I have no doubt in a contract year that not choosing the surgery was the way to go.
But irrespective of that - whether he had surgery or not there was always a risk of compliations arising and general soreness. Which was always going to lead back to going under the knife. Wasted year and if he gets recontracted it’s a wasted preseason.

This is pretty much what the club did with Winston Abraham in his last year. He had hurt his knee and the club gave him a choice, have surgery but not play for the year but that may result in him not getting a new contract, or play through the pain for the year and hopefully be offered a new contract. He decided to play through, ran out onto the ground with his knee and in his first effort to tackle James Hird his knee gave way and that ended his career.

I wish they just had of removed his sesamoid and he would be playing already! If he won't play for the rest of the season, get him to surgery now. I had mine removed after having ongoing issues. Best descision I ever made.

Unfortunately, its not incompetence. Electing to go with conservative treatment prior to surgical is a more client centred approach

I never said it was incompetence. Clearly the approach they have taken seems to have failed and I think he has been a significant loss to the team.

Been told that it will be season over for Kayne depending on how he tracks in the next week.

Piss poor injury management.

You fail to take into account the lack of foresight surrounding covid and how we went into lockdown literally days after his injury and STILL they didn’t do the surgery 😂😂

There was only ever going to be one outcome when they decided against surgery in Feb. Wait for the press release and then the generic comments of get him right for preseason, cotton wool him, let’s hope he comes back bigger, better and stronger. Please 🤦🏻‍♂️

Or get surgery now and make sure he is well and truly right for pre season rather than no surgery and finding out again that cotton wool approach doesn't work for a second time.

Kayne also has significant input as to what approach can be taken.

Given his contract situation I'm sure the club would have put the decision firmly in his hands & his hands alone on this one.

The medical advice may very well have been to go with the surgery, but with him being out of contract he decided, nup no surgery if it means my year is cooked then I can't show I deserve another one.

Players also have a habit of going too hard once rehab gets back into full swing, often re aggraviting the initial injury.

It's not always black and white.

You have some inside knowledge of his prognosis at the time? He could have had surgery and a poor outcome or setbacks in his recovery anyway. Grogg is on the money, above.
Well, he's definitely going to end up getting surgery now and the fact that he might not be ready for next year because of it could cost him his career.
