3 dreaded red lights

Last week, just 3 days after my one year warranty expired my xbox decided it was time to play up. At first it froze a few times then i saw those 3 dreaded red lights.

I took it to get fixed today and was hoping to chip it but unfortunatly the guy I know is going away for a month tommorow, but he suggested I send it away and Xbox will repair it for me free of charge.

Just wondering if this is true and has anyone here had this problem and how did they go about fixing it

You've got three years of warranty on red ring of light failures mate. Follow the instructions in that thread and send it off.

They'll fix it for free, most likely upgrade the innards if its an old chipset, and send it back in 10-15 working days.
