The AFL are really showing no regard to how thin they are spreading the talent pool over the next few years, with two extra teams the quality of each teams list is going to drop as the same amount of players have to be spread further on top of that as I mentioned before the 3 and a sub will hurt older players and players who don't have a great amount of flexibility or fitness as players will be expected to spend a larger amound of time on the ground.

Kids who would get a game early and spend 50-60 percent of time on ground will have to wait longer, seniors who would play the same amount of time on ground pinch hitting as relief / depth players will struggle to stay on lists. So in effect these two moves make the game uglier despite me having no doubt the "look" of the game is what has driven this change.

I am ranting but I really do hate the change for change sake nature of the AFL / rules committee.

I like it:thumbsu:

Far far better than capping the interchanges. Also, as the AFL mentioned makes it much fairer for a team if they get an injury.

Its a stupid rule and a classic knee jerk reaction by the AFL. They want to limit interchanges for reasons not backed up by any evidence and contradictory to all the evidence clubs have put forth. To cap it off they introduce a new rule that will increase rotations, not reduce it.

The most disappointing thing about this rule is it will no longer be the best 22 that plays all game, but the best 21, so it denies a player the opportunity for a place in the team, unless an injury occurs. It hurts chances for guys like Blair, Goldsack and other young guys to grab a spot in the team :thumbsd:

This.

Stupid rule. Simple.

So what's stopping teams from sending a player in to be absolutely ruthless for a first half and then do a soccer injury?
I don't think you even need to fake the injury.

From what I understand, you could use the sub whenever you want, without any restrictions or reasons needed to be given as to why the player coming off is being replaced.

thats how i read it.

i was hoping that the subs were just a single pick from the 3 available emergenices

ie

Leon is playing like a dog for the first half swap him with lockyer (at that point Leon is done for the game)

or

Leeroy is injured bring in wood or whatever

then your emergencies will actually mean something more to the game plan than just a what-if.

Yup in addition, the sub can come on for any player (injured, bad game, or whatever reason)

Sub must be announced on Thursday with the teams

By the way, next year if a GF team doesn't use a sub, does the sub get a premiership medallion?

No but he get's to keep his jumper! S.C
