Sorry to intrude, but at 300k a year, surely this shows that Essendon could have upped its offer to Crameri to keep him... Obviously just didnt want him enough.
How does it show we had any more money to offer Crameri? Last I checked 300k is less than the 450k we would have needed to equal the amount the dogs are paying him. It is not a surplus in our cap over Crameris current wage, but most likely is his current wage relocated to Chapman.

Let's wait for all the Geelong supporters to come in and say he's too old and too slow

won't get it from me; I have little doubt he'll be out to prove Chris Scott and Geelong wrong, and if there's one thing Chappy is good at, it's proving people wrong.

If he can stay fit at the pointy end of the season he will undoubtedly contribute.

What happens if Crameri decides to stay. They wouldn't have given away his wage yet, and last I heard they were still trying to talk him into staying.

He is gone, he told Essendon he will walk into the draft if they cant reach a deal. The club wouldn't just sit idly by with his salary cap money during the trade period with the small hope he stays and miss out on another player.

I think Cats fans, overall, have taken this news fairly pragmatically. The lack of real animosity between Essendon and Geelong and the two supporter bases probably helps in that regard.

Keep in mind, though, that Chappy is a genuine legend of the Geelong Football Club. There are no two ways about that. So some will be bitterly disappointed it's come to this, and that's more than understandable. There's no need to rub it in from us.

At the end of the day, he will be remembered first and foremost as a legend of the GFC, and we're just lucky that he's chosen us to finish his career with. I have no doubt he will bring both his exceptional ability, and leadership, to the table.

I agree with all but that part, my whole family and house mate are overly emotional Geelong supporters so I'm buying them Chappy badges for Christmas presents :D

So 5 in total, that includes one for myself!

Very happy with this. Have always respected him as a player, for his skill, aggression and ability to play well in big games.
Will be great to see Chappy finish his career in the red and black!

Ha ha, good job. ;)

I guess by that I was particularly referring to their board here.

Just like Goddard last year it is a very strange feeling thinking about our games next year with this rival club champ strutting his stuff in our colours, he was far and away my favourite Geelong player over the last decade(just a sneaky backslap for myself but I tipped him for the 2009 norm smith), and I am absolutely stoked that he'll be lining up for the greatest team in the land.

Cannot wait for him to smash 4-5+ goals and win a game for us off his own boot next year.

Still rememeber recent Port final and he looked far from finished. Surprised by the Cats letting him go, thought it may have been salary cap but at his age his salary would have qualified for veterans. Plus Cats had a go at Shaw.

Will add some much needed experience and leadership to our forward line and it will definitely help some of the younger blokes in Daniher, Merrett and then even the likes of Hurley/Kommer who whilst they are a bit older still have nothing of the experience of a guy like Chapman.

I'm looking forward to any games where both he and Winderlich play together (realistically I'm not sure how many that will be) but I reckon they will be good ones for our forward line.

Very happy to get Chappy - but don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. Have we seen anything concrete from the club or league that he's definitely signing with us? I'm not so willing to take what the Age &/or the HS write as gospel anymore since their football articles have become about as factual as a Wile E Coyote cartoon.
