3z. Nothing away from Port but we were crap and the umps were one-eyed pirates.

I don't like to criticize the umpiring after a loss but f*$# it was bad yesterday.

They let go some very obvious in the back, incorrect disposal and high contact decisions while paying some extremely technical ones.

I'll stick to the positives...

1. Tippett looks as though he's exactly what we need at the SCG... A power forward capable of taking overhead marks. Also willing to do the hard stuff. I was impressed with his debut.

2. Rampe is getting better with each game. Really impressed by his desperation and tackling yesterday. Even when players come back from injury I think he's pretty much a long term replacement for Mattner's role.

3. Mitchell was again very good. His body work in contested situations is brilliant. He knows exactly how to protect the ball and get it out quickly and effectively. The thought that he'll get a lot better is scary.

TBH I expect Tippet to get much better. A good outing but not great. Quite some rust to work out.

So do I.

I thought for a big man playing in the wet after missing half the season he did alright. Just look at Pyke and Whites influence around the ground to see how tough it was for the big guys yesterday.

No more byes please. I can't believe I looked forward to that for 2 whole weeks.

Maybe it was the loss we had to have. The wake up call if you like. Some cold water to remind the team that the 2nd half of the year is the business half.

Man O Man, what a loss :/

My 3 things :

1. Hannebery needs to learn how to lose a tag (Tough I know, considering Cornes is one of the best).
2. Game changed once we lost Goodes .
3. For a first game in 3 months, I thought Tippett played well.

The commentators were saying how Hanners wasn't even trying to shake it. You would think with his engine that he would just run all day and ask Cornes to try and keep up.

On The Rub (MMM) they were saying how Sydney may have had a heavy training load on the week off to build for the 2nd half of the season. Probably didn't pay Port the due respect if that's the case.

Yeah, I know key forwards get manhandled, but there were two occasions where Carlisle had his back to the ball and was pushing Tippett out of the contest. One of them a free even went Carlisle. Add to that three two other frees right in front of goal that went against Tippett and Morton that were very, very technical, and a missed one to Kennedy who was having his arm pulled back at the top of the square going for the ball and it was a shocking day for frees in our forward 50.

Just on that, considering there was quite a bit of positivity about Reid and Jetta pushing for selection, if they do play this week I wonder if the 'we'll just give them another week off' mentality came into it last week thinking we could just push past port.

I'm not trying to be a conspiracy theorist but I just found the tone after the game strange emphasising that they may not get up for this week. I just don't know what to make of the info we get from our medical staff and horse regarding injured players, I mean until the side was named there was absolutely no mention of the Everitt injury.

We would have to be one of the worst clubs when it comes to providing accurate information on injuries.

Speaking of which, I wonder what's happening with Goodes (I draw a very deep breath on this one)

I think that's the point. The club doesn't really consider information about the inner workings of the team to be anyone's business but their own so they will do everything they have to do (like lodge an official injury list, do press conferences, do bits for SwansTV) but they won't divulge any more than is utterly necessary.

I suppose that sort of attitude is how things like Mumford's suspension was kept so private until late in the week. The Sydney media not being as prying and keen as the Melbourne media would certainly help as well to make sure that leads aren't picked up and questions aren't asked of the club. I think the club absolutely loves it that way.

Most clubs know exactly whats going on at other clubs
Yeah this. I'm sure Port would have known more about who was unavailable from our side than we as members did.

Maybe, but if that attitude is a small part of a larger attitude of "only divulging what we have to" that has helped the club grow to where it is now, I'm pretty cool with it.

Reminds me of a story I once heard about a great full forward back in the old VFL days who went into I think it was a Grand Final with a badly injured shoulder.
The word got out to the opposition leading up to the game about his injury and their fullback was given instructions to target the shoulder, make him hurt.
Sure enough when they lined up on each other the fullback was crashing and bumping the heavily strapped shoulder all day.
The full forward kicked a bag and his team went on to win the game.

They strapped the opposite shoulder on purpose.

1. Hanners has drank his own bath water.
2. We really missed Everitt:eek:
3. Armstrong should quit the AFL and go on tour of local RSL clubs around the state as a Prince impersonator.

I'm also reluctant to go on about umpiring decisions but the one that's stuck with me ended up being what got them off the mark when we still had early momentum ... Jude was pinged for knocking it out of bounds deliberately just near our defensive 50m and for the life of me I couldn't work out how they'd ruled it. It seemed like an inoffensive open-handed slap forward in traffic that just happened to go out of bounds ... they kicked in and scored soon after ... anywy ...

Oh, and 3 things ...
1) There's far too many over-sensitive souls on our board who seem to take these results as some kind of personal offence. It was a disappointing result, they happen.
2) Hannebery won't play like that again this season.
3) I still don't think we're a particularly good wet weather side, and I hope it's dry Friday night but either way, we'll beat Carlton.

I've said it for years , we as members are treated like shit on the injuries

Clearly the club wants to play its cards close. Perhaps the 'real' injury list could be hidden inside a club photo using steganography (hiding in plain sight). Registered Swans members could be given the key to extract the message from the jpeg. I imagine the resulting smugness and general feeling of superiority would please many of our member base.

Dead right. The Jude deliberate call was ridiculous. Both teams were banging it forward at any opportunity with many kicks going similarly out of bounds. In a game where Swans players couldn't hit the side of a barn it seems optimistic to think Jude could pinpoint touch from a wild kick under pressure.

On point 2. This is the second time Hanners has dropped the bundle under a heavy tag and it may well happen again.
