Charlie wanted Geelong and settled for Sydney. That is a big difference in lifestyle - I wonder whether he really thought it through. He will nevertheless be happy to be fawned over instead of having to earn back respect

Pathetic club
Got bent over

Disagree...I'm certain that privately, the club were happy to get him off our hands
And...I'm certain that there's a bit of "buyer beware" with Sydney, childish, petulant and conditional with a bad attitude and suspect knees

Hawthorn on the other hand threw the kitchen sink at Ess because they can sleep easier at night knowing what Merrett will bring

Let's see if Curnow cracks the sads in the highly structured and accountable Swans system when Cox or one or Rampe have a go at him. He'll be asking for a trade to Geelong

He checked out this year...that SAYS EVERYTHING

Getting rid of Curnow was a perfect example of "Carlton First"

I like Charlie. Despite the recent connections to Smith, I reckon he’s a great fella from a very good family (and I can definitely understand wanting to get out of the Melbourne bubble).

Hope he gets to the end of his career injury free. A remarkable career so far given the injuries.

He gave us a lot.

Feel for the young ones. I’d have been shattered if this happened when I was a kid.

Can I be sad and happy at the same time?

SAD
Sad because Charlie pre-2025 was one of my favourite players and when he's on he's arguably the best player in the comp.

Sad because he's the 3rd player from our vaunted spine to leave in one offseason.

Sad because he left in such a shameful way burning bridges and checking out midseason.

HAPPY
Happy because we sold high. He's injury prone, will be 29 before next season starts and we have maxed the possible return.

Happy because Hayward is going to be great.

Happy because our 2026 lineup will be fresh and not one dimensional.

I’m going to say I will miss him, despite the fact I think we were right to trade.

I was at the Gold Coast in 2023 when he put in a superhuman performance to guide us to the finals. The elation in the stands when the final siren went was next level.

And over the years, some of those raking kicks into the forward line were next level. If only he could have kicked to himself he probably would have scored far more goals.

Charlie… I’ve now had several weeks to acclimatise to the idea you wouldn’t be with us next year. I still can’t figure out why you felt that way. But hopefully you feel some sort of happiness in your life from being at the SCG. Carlton will go on, and hopefully we will be bigger and better.

I will always have memories of that magic day at Metricon.
