Charlie struggles with pressure. It's why he wanted out, it's why he always played on and snapped from 15m while the ump was setting the man on the mark, and it's why he always wheeled and kicked from the 50m arc.

I'm not sure the SCG is going to give him relief from expectations. AFL is serious business in Sydney these days.

Charlie ran away from breathalyser

Charlie ran away from rehabilitation

Charlie ran away from responsibility for his injury

Charlie ran away from owning his poor form

Charlie ran away from feedback

Charlie ran away from courageous leadership

Charlie ran away from contract

Charlie ran away from responsibility to young members

Charlie ran away from loyalty

Never had to earn anything.

Until now.

I don't think he ran away from all of those things. I think he wheeled around from 60m and sprayed them all over the place.

I will not miss the “what the **** happens next” when it should be “walk back, take your time & just kick the goal”.

It was an emotional bloody roller coaster every time the ball was anywhere near him, the excitement was awesome, joyful when it went right but the disappointment just hurt.

I still feel we didn’t see the best of Charlie. He’s that talented. Maybe Sydney will.

Part of me would love to see it. Of course, part of me would die inside if he flourishes and finds balance, consistency and his top form for someone else.

Best of luck, Chuck.

Charlie reminds me of Nik Kyrios …. all the talent with none of the discipline required for true greatness.

I think he was part of the cultural problem, one of the toxic players we needed to get rid of. I’m glad to see the back of him and the bounty we got for him. I wish him luck but I think his legacy will be the same as Nik Kyrios’. ….. shoulda coulda didn’t.

Can someone message me and tell me what has gone on at the club to make cc and sos both want out? And I'm not talking about money and contracts
But $$ and contract years was obviously the case with JSOS - as a free agent rightfully sniffling around a few clubs and landing a 5 year x $850k/ yr contract.

Not sure about Curnow who signed a 6 year extension 2 years ago. Maybe there’s a lifestyle appeal, maybe there some bigger marketing opportunities and $$ in a two team city - wh on knows?

“I don't really want to make this about me right now, but I'm playing at Carlton next year. There you go. Done.”

Never played another game for us. Doch’s last game for the club was Charlie’s last game for the club too.

I think moving Charlie on was the right move, but it still makes me sad. That era is over.

And just remember, in '23, he was the prime reason why we made finals. But I guess his 6 goal haul vs Gold Coast to bring us back from death and the match saving mark didn't happen?
This revisionist history is pretty funny, though.
Actually it didn’t, Curnow kicked 5.1 against the Suns in ‘23 not 6.

His other highlights included bags of goals in only five other games - 10 & 9 against WCE, 6 (NM), 6 (Collingwood) and 5 against cats.

He was missing in the finals managing only 1 goal in each game.

The worst thing to come of this is I re-gifted a young man a Charlie Curnow bobblehead to get him on the navy blues

No player is bigger than the club and certainly not Charlie. We have better, more acclaimed and professional players currently at the club and our history is littered with far more significant figures so I’m not shedding a tear at his departure. I don’t think he has ever really embraced what is required to be part of a successful football club. IMO the signs were there in 2024 that he was becoming too big for his boots. His 2025 season was utterly embarrassing to watch, as was his efforts to get out of a club that has done nothing but support him in good times and bad. Both speak to his lack of character. I think he will struggle playing for a professional club like Sydney.

That doesn't really detract the point I made.

He won us that game that set us up for finals.

Charlie wanted Geelong and settled for Sydney. That is a big difference in lifestyle - I wonder whether he really thought it through. He will nevertheless be happy to be fawned over instead of having to earn back respect
loves a surf......Manly Beach, Bondi Beach, and Maroubra Beach v Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale plus both clubs needed a gun forward...easy decision for a selfish person who is not team orientated. Swans will find him a very nice penthouse close to the surf and sand.

I championed this guy from the moment we picked him up. Could see the talent he was and actually got into an argument with a blues fan in his 1st year when this fan was really critical of Charlie. I defended him even when I knew he was playing selfish footy and not chasing hard enough. I defended him when I knew he was FAR more capable of what he was showing. He has the potential to be the number 1 player in the comp yet we never really saw it apart from glimpses (that 2023 Gold Coast game at the end of the year is a highlight for me).

I wish him nothing but zero success playing for Sydney and hope he has an awful time playing up there. He is a selfish player who is not about team but about Charlie and that is so disappointing. But, we move on. **** you very much Charlie.
