i got 30k sitting there and im sick of my job. Id love to work for myself. Anyone know of any good businesses or franchises going around. Of course i would need a lot more than 30k but its a start.

Most small business fail but if you can muster 500k to 1 000 000 buy an established fast food joint although not many reach the market because they give good returns.

I was speaking to a tow truck driver the other day who sub-contracts to Nationwide Towing, and his job sounded pretty sweet to me.
Basically he owns his truck, and Nationwide find all his work for him. He pays a set percentage to them (I think 30%) and keeps the rest. Spends all his spare time in his truck reading books or playing his guitar, and said they find him enough work to live very comfortably. Only real cost is the tow truck, which I have no idea of the costs - his only tip was not to buy a new one, as the extra repayments can be crippling.
Sounded like a pretty good return for a pretty cruisy job. Not particularly stimulating, but if you wanted to make some reasonable coin, and have a fairly relaxing job. might be a goer.

I suggest before you start any business that you read The E Myth by Michael Gerber. It is a well known book about entrepreneurs and why most small business fail.
There is a franchise and property/investment expo held every year in most capital cities. In Melbourne it is held usually around October at Jeff's Shed (Exhibition Centre). It usually has about 100 different companies there all providing info about their franchisee... I went there a few years ago and now are on the mailing list, sometimes get free tickets. It can be a bit of a pain as everyone there is naturally trying to sell themselves to you...but is a great way to find out what is out there!
