Markov got some good tools, not just legspeed. Barring injury I don't think he'll get another game this year. Wherever he ends up it was good to see him play well at AFL level.

I'd take him any day over Egg. Can't see Oleg ever beign much more than a role player, but that's all we need him to be.

What. He was AA last year. He was nearly a norm smith medalist last year. You're acting like this was his form 10 years ago.
What has Houli done this year? He started the year with 26, 25, 21 and 19 touches before taking a break due to his baby.

Markov has not had more than 14 touches in a game this year.

Houli - 18.4 touches / 4.2 marks / 2.3 tackles / 2 inside 50s / 3.3 rebound 50s
Markov - 11.3 touches / 2.7 marks / 1.5 tackles / 1.7 inside 50s / 1.7 rebound 50s

You ask what Houlis done all year. What has Markov done in his 6 games that makes you feel he should displace a proven elite finals player who was AA last year?

Did you also write off Jack at the start of the year. Seems like the same type of nuffy comment.

So based on stats alone, we may as well say Tom Mitchell and other stat padding players are better than Dusty? It's what Markov did with the ball and his run and carry out of the back half which was instrumental to our Geelong, Brisbane, and WC regular season wins. He completely threw out their defensive structures with run and carry and good ball use. Houli was amazing last year and prior but we need to move on. You can show all the stats you want but Houli under pressure this year has been useless, and has been softer in contests going to ground way too easily. Since coming in during the Essendon game he has slowed down our ball movement and then when you add Astbury we are wayyyy too slow coming out of defensive 50. Houli is hiding on reputation and is no where near the 2017/19 Houli in the GF. Our attacking from the back half has literally gone to shit since he has come in and especially with Astbury in the side.

I dont see why markov would leave if we’re offering him a new deal?
Surely gc couldnt offer him that much more than we can? Hes still only played 20 odd afl games.
If he’s chasing game time, houlis only going around for another year maximum, he’ll get a consistent crack at it.
Stuff rotting up on gc like miles and cellis, stay and be successful with us thanks :)

Great post.

Markov is all of a sudden being talked up because he's not a shit as they thought. He has been serviceable this year.

Ummm no. I didn't just post disposal numbers did I? If I compared those two you would see dusty leading heavily in impact stats like inside 50s and goals.

Who cares about speed if you're only getting 10 touches a game. Just try to name a good half backer that averages 11 touches a game. We've gone 5-1 since Houli came back including tearing apart Eagles and Cats.

He's not a free agent. Think he is required depth and a candidate cor Houli replacement.

This annoys me - we need to get something decent in return or he can go in the draft.

Need to reset our negotiating stance, we have been too soft letting players go for cheap.
 
Fancy that, i'm not happy he is going, but I don't blame him for leaving when players like .........get games on low form.

He wont be the only one leaving. Oh well its the premiership curse.

Put five years into him, never really looked like it and then came in and played well with hgreat kicking and found space off half back for six games and then he's gone.
It's a funny game.
