To be perfectly honest i dont believe i ever seen a Todd Elton highlight
He kicked that goal in a preseason game against Hawthorn. He was on the run in the corridor and got cleaned up as he was kicking it.

Pretty much the only good thing he did that I can remember.

Well, in the same quarter he laid two tackles on Teppanyaki stopping him in his tracks. Does that qualify?
I don’t wish to discuss JON for obvious reasons.

I can’t believe people get so wrapped up in tell me every highlight play, geez it’s not as if everything Dusty/Cotchin/Vlastuin/anyone else on team has highlights every play or you remember every play they are involved in. Standards are set so different for certain players.

Personally I think it’s confirmation bias, people remember the good plays of players they deem good and bad plays or the players they deem bad. Edwards is a prime example of this throughout his career, yeah he could miss some shocking kicks but so could lids, dusty and Cotchin. Edwards is not as good as those guys but gets judged way more harshly for his mistakes.

CEllis stood out as clean on Saturday and his handballs constantly hit targets in the chest instead of at the feet or above the head of teammates as others in the side are prone to do. He was by no means outstanding but what he did was often quality and looked a continuation of his VFL finals form.

For the record the stats of two premiership mids and Corey from Saturday.

There is certainly a bit of that ... highlighting what he is capable of.
But there's also a desperation in it to overstate and exaggerate a single piece of play to make him seem better than he is.
I'd be impressed if said poster said the very next centre bounce he chased down a Dons midfielder and forced a turnover.
One solo highlight wreaks of desperation t prove his point. Every AFL footballer has one highlight, well, except for Oakley Nichols. Though he did kick a point to put us in front in a game didn't he?
Remember that kick he did to Lids in the goal square against Freo?

i will continue to talk him up and add some mayo, to try and get my point across...he only had 2/3rds game time yet 4 acts of sheer brilliance as well as his 17 other odd other tidy disposals....

the swerve, the 2 bonecruches on the nippiest bloke going around, and a sprawling, diving slips catch and a sausage after a very shoddy pass from dusty.

very smart footballer to kept finding the right blokes too with his decisive quick clean handballing to our best ball uses with houle, short and cotch on the end of a few. ;)

We'll see when the real stuff comes about, where his track record for a third round pick - let alone first rounder - is poor.
BTW ... in which round do we play at Wangaratta during the home and away season???

You really enjoy putting down players. It is quite sad.

Nah mate, when they play well, I acknowledge it.
REALITY is he has done little in three seasons and even less to justify being pick 12 in the draft.
First to admit I'm a hard marker, giving an honest assessment is sometimes what you and others don't want to hear.
I even praised his willingness to get involved last week ... he showed more ball-winning ability last week than he has in any senior game.
Yes, I could sugar-coat his average of five kicks and handballs per game in 2017 to appease you and others who can't handle a simple critique of a player, but I'll be true to myself.
And no, I get no joy pointing out how a player, in this case CEllis has not met expectations as I hope ALL our players thrive. Give you the hint, they won't.
Either that or I could needlessly pump his tyres up and make him out to be some better version of Cotch to appease you. Yes, that will make him play better won't he ... Ahhhhh Ahhhhhh!
For the record, I would imagine his coaches are telling him the same thing, thta five kicks a game from a midfielder is unacceptable :)

And this is the sticking point I reckon....
You think he has to justify his pick 12 selection but two things I would argue against that...
1- he didnt ask to be chosen pick 12, that was the clubs choice, so not for him to prove anything
2- once you are on a list, IMO, where you are drafted becomes irrelevant.

Any pick in the draft has it's importance, up to the exact moment the club uses that pick, then, they are just another player on the list.
Clearly the higher the pick, the better chance they will be a good player, but it's proven that's no certainty, and whats worse, id the higher the pick, the HIGHER THE SUPPORTER EXPECTATIONS. Again, he didn't as to be pick 12, so he doesn't have to prove anything to supporters either.

All good in theory Hank, but that wouldn't be the club's expectation.
They don't draft a kid with pick 12 and say to themselves, as long as we get 50-plus decent games out of him, same as our pick 44 and 67.
The higher the pick, the higher the club expectations.
I was privy to an address from Hardwick a few years ago, who repeatedly stated - and referenced it to players including but not limited to Dustin Martin, Jack Riewoldt, Bachar Houli, Brad Miller, Shaun Grigg and Ivan Maric, we (the Tigers) draft for STARS and recruit for NEED. I think you'll find they hope to unearth a few gems each draft, and know there is more chance of finding them at the top.
And sorry, we'll disagree, this 'he didn't ask to be picked at 12' is a cop out. I didn't ask to be picked in the first round but I'l take the first round money.
Draft position is very relevant. Too many non-performig first rounders and you go nowhere.

Thought he showed some really good signs again with limited game time and a heavy knock.
Interestingly, Jack talked him up as a likely round one selection after the game.

Funnily enough, the biggest knock on him has been he is timid and or soft. He got smashed a few times last night and kept going hard at every contest.

I haven't been a massive fan, but you can see the makings of a pure footballer. He is a less aggressive and smaller Cotch with the way he moves in traffic. He would do well to mould his attitude on Cotch 2017

He has definitely improved his hardness. Still needs to get more of it if he's going to cement himself in the 22 this year.

Wow...big call...if he is half as good as Cotch we have all done well...
Watched the game...was'nt displeased with his input...then again did not see enough to say he's a monty for R1...

Hes super clean, one thing you cant criticise him on

Im hopeful he will become a meaningful player this year, has shown good signs in both JLT games
