His VFL form has been surprisingly good and I understand why he was given a debut, but he was very unlucky given the combination of poor conditions and the knock he got, plus the woeful performance of the team in general. I wouldn’t mind backing him in for a decent 2nd game against the Suns depending on weather, I reckon he can grasp the forward/2nd ruck role even at this early stage of his career, but if not right now, then in the near future. But right now I’m leaning towards Parker coming in as a forward in his place.

Cant believe the flank this young man is getting …. Guess what he’s played more AFL games than me and anyone else around here

Dont see why we shouldnt give him a second game. Trying to beat the suns means nothing. Might as well give the kids a crack and If we win well then yay. I'm not convinced we'd win even if we went all in anyway.

Might be detrimental to him to leave with that game to go back to VFL. Would be nice to have a game where he finds his feet but a loss would end it next week so best side might have to be the go.

Yes he made Jack Watts first game look sensational and as soon as he was on we were a player short but they and people on here believe he is showing something at VFL so Im curious still.

It may have been the worst ever debut in Richmond Football Club history.

Do you need a reason? He's a 206cm ruckman who got only one hit out. There's one.

Pretty sure kade Simpson got doughnuts in his first 3 games or something.

Sending him back after that will destroy his confidence. He needs the club to show confidence in him.

Its already over, the win or loss next week matters not. Might as well give him another shot rather than ruining his confidence.

DoItForCaptBlood that was me that said he wasn't ready ;)
Well, I knew the conditions were going to be tough and thought he might have a quiet game. He didn't have a quiet game though!
He didn't get a possie. We basically played with 17 men while he was on the ground.
That knock he took early probably didn't help his movement or confidence. Coming from QLD too I assume from juniors meant he rarely would have played in those conditions. Ridiculous decision to play him once that weather was certain. They should have made the late change, but the media build up and 1st game with family making the trip, meant he was always going out there.

Jonathan Brown did nothing in his first 3 games as well

Poor bugger got injured early & spent a fair bit of time off ! Maybe he was still hampered by the injury issue throughout the game .
Would be terrible for him enough after the performance but if he was restricted in his ability to run etc he would just feel worse.

Brief times I have seen VFL games on TV this year he looked okay

Averaged about 12% game time, so played about 10 minutes.

Theres so many negative nancy's on here. It was one game. Yes he struggled (the knock wouldn't of helped) and no the conditions didn't suit. He may of lost a bit of confidence but he would of still learnt a hell of a lot from it. He will bounce back.

Well said BB - you would think there were people on here who have had their knee bruised or jarred or a bit of corky have all risen above the same and played meaningful games there after the way are speaking. As for the conditions, you know what, we do get them up here too sometimes so it was not that abnormal - not common - but that is the beauty of footy - you play in what you get - no grizzles - no grumbles - 22 of you in it together!

The match committee sure did surprise with this selection and if any criticism is due it might be on them. However, as much as I question his selection, the match committee just have to suck it up now and learn from it - not the first or the last.

Not to mention and abysmal night from a team perspective to play as a forward. 3 goals, say no more. I like the look of him, seems to have proper ruckman's aggression. In the limited time he spent rucking, he at least tried to out position his opponent, well more so than Chol and CCJ. He did that also in the VFL. Knows how to ruck. Would not be against giving him another crack, but against Smith won't have a size advantage and Chol's athleticism will.

He played in a game where we kicked our lowest score at the MCG for 95 years.

In a game where triple premiership players looked like scrubs.

In a game that ended with a large amount of people calling out players like our captain to hang up the boots.

It was also wet. And we played too many talls. And we didnt even play him in the ruck.

Judging him off that game makes 0 sense. Our team was collectively trash, so how can you expect anything from him when 250 gamers couldn't complete basic skills?

We should have protected him and not played him. Hes a good development player and no idea why are we trying to cook him early
Gotta say it is odd how we kept someone like CCJ and RCD out until they are really ready but then throw kids like Ryan and Martyn earlier in the year in tough conditions before they are ready.

Anyone who says Samson Ryan should play again this week,

Try and say it to the playing group when you've had players like RCD toil away in the 2s for 3 years to earn a game whilst a scrub waltzes in and plays the worst game in RFC history and gets to retain his spot based on THAT.

Anyone who honestly thinks Ryan will keep his spot hasn't played in a sporting club. No clue

Am I saying delist him? No

Growth Mindset - he sees the difference between AFL and VFL. Now go back and earn your spot.

Good comments there Grrr - he apparently had 64mins of TOG - however his early few contained that front on incident and it will be interesting to hear what, if any, injury results. I always thought he was too easy to push off at Sherwood in Brisbane and was really surprised by his drafting/listing. That said he is a thinker, an analyser and would no doubt get better with time - how much time he has is my worry for him. He was / is insurance and we are trying to make a claim with Soldo out, Nank out, Chol in desperate need of support, and no Lynch. We have been rucking Pickett for goodness sake, and we were just out of luck with Samson's body on the night.

I actually think he would be OK against Smith, who has no great pedigree himself. I hope Samson is fit because provided he is, he and Chol could work Smith over as two prong attach.
