I see you go by the mantra when you have dug yourself a hole keep digging and eventually you may get out the otherside.

We were gone when we were equal 5th on the ladder. We should have just given up the season at that point in time. Extraordinary argument. I can really see Bucks running with that thought.

You are neglecting to address you are saying you want to drop Cloke to give him a kick up the pants for not getting enough of the ball, kicking enough goals and being inaccurate. But have decided to do this after a 6 week period of season best form when he got the ball, kicked plenty of goals with uncharacteristic accuracy.

How would you have Bucks explain the rationale being dropping Cloke when he was in season best form. I can just see the Presser. It would have required plenty of smoke and shadows behind the window.
Batting at 2 goals a game might be season best form, but that doesn't mean it's good enough form. After that Suns game, the season was gone. From that time onwards, was the time to send a message that his output and inaccuracy isn't good enough. You might want to hang on to your sycophancy and deifying mediocre players, but I don't think anyone is beyond getting a harsh message especially $800k players kicking 2 goals a game.

Fu after his performance on Sunday I am feeling a vbit isolated defending him as he was terrible and it does dent my belief that he will come good

Still I hardly rate it sycohancy or deifying Cloke to suggest that to drop him after the Suns game in 2014 was never an option. You plucked that time out of the air and unfortunately picked a time when in the preceding 6 weeks Cloke had kicked 21g 10b at an average of 3.5 g/game and 68% accuracy. These figures are fantastic, better than his career highs. You couldn't have dropped him that week when he was kicking plenty of goals with great accuracy.

I think it needs to be real simple for Cloke this week. The only thing I would ask is that when he leads or goes for a ball in the air, that he attacks it with everything. He isn't a timid player, but he is badly lacking confidence.

He just needs an early goal. The flood gates could open after that.

What would help and what I have not seen in years at Collingwood is individualised positive coaching for needs and personality type.

Agree. Heater should have been wolfing down ADHD drugs at half time instead of oranges, Daisy required psychotherapy for his separation anxiety, and Clokey needed a wet nurse.

Everyone is different, some like Fasolo needs constant praise from himself, Swannie needs to be left to do his thing, Cloke needs a better head shrink, Shaw needed better meds, Daisy needed a father figure not an older brother, Harry O F*ck knows, Dawes maybe just a hug, Josh and Keeffe needed a cleaner source, some fit the mold many others don't, understanding what makes each tick is important.

Wasn't that one of Malthouse's greatest strengths??

This self empowerment thing, or allowing the leadership group to chair leading teams sessions is great in theory but like you said everyone is different.

They are not robots and at the end of the day to become a great leader you have to know what buttons to push and when.

Yes and a strength of every successful coach. People like Leigh Mathews are more pragmatic and honest about it and others not so but unless you can extract the best from all types then you simply can't coach. It's partly why some successful assistant coaches don't make good senior coaches.

There are lots of theories here and there's probably a bit of truth in all of them - Cloke's confidence is shot which partly reflects on his mental strength and partly on the club's support systems. Our game plan, lack of foot skills and injury list also play a part. In addition, though, Cloke's body language just looks bad, he's so quick to drop his head and then appears to stop trying. I reckon before the loss to Port that Cloke was 50/50 about whether he wanted to stay and the club was about the same. My guess now would be that the club at least would be 60/40 in favour of a trade if an okay deal can be done.

The key part of the succession plan. Had MM stuck to the contract, they would all be playing at Collingwood still, even with Bucks as the coach and we would be having different discussions.
Rocket didn't have the same skill set or relationship with the players to be able to do this.

I didn't comment to make this another Bucks V Malthouse thread. The truth is the players love Bucks......from what I have heard.

My comment was about putting players into a pigeon hole. They are individuals and should be treated that way.

The noise coming out of the Club about hardening up was a good start because this self empowerment mumbo jumbo doesn't work for everyone IMO.

Sometimes a kick up the arse will have a better effect than a cuddle!

And extend his arms to mark instead of on his chest.

Used to be one of my bug bears in my playing days in country footy. Makes my blood boil seeing supposed elite footballers doing just that. Cloke was guilty on the weekend. Admittedly it's probably a sign of his lack of confidence

May have been a sign of the wet conditions and wet footy

feeble excuse. He's got mitts like Brother Lee Love
I had to give you a like for the Kenny Everett reference! Bravo!

Do you believe that this season is gone or just about gone?
