So what changed so quickly that trading Cloke isn't laughable anymore but now desirable?

Buckley had his back last year and was effusive in his support but now doesn't rate him at all, clearly.

What changed? It wasn't as if Cloke wasn't poor in 2014-15 either but Buckley kept the faith then but by rd 4 this year he'd stamped Trav's papers. It's quite dramatic and unfathomable really.

One thing is certain though. Reading that Sun piece in hindsight Dunstall comes across as a guy who can see the bigger picture and what hard calls need to be made in the pursuit of team building excellence. Buckley comes across as smug, naïve and slow to catch on.

Clokes worth is a pittance now compared to what he was worth if the club had the courage to move on him last year. We've shot ourselves in the foot again and this is becoming a habit for this club of late (and I'm talking pretty much since GF day 2011).

Cloke is cooked unfortunately. One dimensional and has little defensive skills. Been a huge fan, but his last 2 years have been disappointing. Saw him drop a couple of clunkers last week, and he went to ground too easily. He needed to star and really throw his body around. Didn't see him smash packs. Defenders just aren't scared of him anymore. I wish him well and thank him, but at around $36,000+ a week, the club deserves more.

Not many players get to choose how they go out. I remember how sad I was when we didn't retain Daics.

Thanks for your great contribution, Travis. You are a Collingwood premiership player, which is a good thing... maybe the best of things. ;)

Astute post and hard to argue with but there's another side of the coin.
Someone like Trav deserves far more respect than has been shown to him.
Bucks can't even let him have the last decent crack at resurrecting his career with us even when our year is done and there are plenty of players that are currently in 22 but under-performing as well.

This isn't just about form.

What would Cloke wield on the open market.
Late first round? Maybe second

It's hard to defend Buckley in relation to Cloke.

There's no chance a club would forfeit a first round pick for Cloke.

A second rounder is much more realistic.

Bucks or me?
Bucks hasn't destroyed Cloke. If Cloke isn't adaptable in a game that requires versatility, then the problem is Cloke, not Buckley. Cloke is probably 8kgs too heavy, he has decreased his work rate and he has lost power off the mark so he can't work over his more mobile opponent like he used to be able to.

Very true, not always enough respect shown for our premiership players once they're past their prime

In September last year Bucks laughed at suggestions we should trade Cloke and stated that he is a big part of our future. Fast forward six months and Cloke's career appears to be over at Collingwood with half the season still to play. Something has gone horribly wrong and I think it is unfair to blame Cloke for all of it.
