🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

A 154 game career with Adelaide which included accolades of:
  • Round 3, 2009 Rising Star nominee; 7th place finish in final voting that year
  • 2012 Showdown Medalist
  • 2015 Malcolm Blight Medalist (Adelaide B&F)

195* games & counting in the hoops, with accolades including:
  • 2016 Brownlow Medalist
  • 2016 Leigh Matthews Trophy winner (AFLPA MVP)
  • 2016 AFLCA Champion Player of the Year
  • 3 times Carji Greeves Medalist; 2016, 17 & 19
  • 2022 Tom Willis Award winner (Country Game best on)
  • 2022 Premiership player
  • 2022 Gary Ayres Medalist
  • Geelong Captain since 2023

Apologies for missing this - from 17 completed seasons across his 2 clubs, Dangerfield has been worn an AA Blazer on 8 occasions:
  • 2012, 2013, 2019 & 2020, on the half forward line
  • 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018, as a follower
Capped off by being named captain of the 2020 team, after being VC in 2018

And if he finishes this season as he's played throughout the first half, he could will become the first 9 time All Australian

There's not much that Patrick "F'ing" Dangerfield hasn't achieved across his already illustrious career, and this Friday night he'll become just the 25th player and 4th to have worn the hoops during their career to run out in game #350 - and just like his 3 former teammates before him who've reached this milestone, even when they've worn the colours of another team, when they've run out in game 350 it's been in the Hoops

I'm quite sure we've said most things before, but how lucky are we to have been able to watch the man from Moggs Creek up close over the past decade and for nearly 200 games in the hoops

We've been pretty damn lucky as Geelong Fans to watch a couple of great players wearing the #35 this century and this weekend we get to truly celebrate a future Hall of Fame player and Geelong FC Legend - congrats PFD

And for those looking for the best way to celebrate the captain - make sure to enjoy a bowl of butter chicken this week

I guess we have another thread for the 200 in a few weeks time..

The FA that wasn’t … will go down as one of our best ever. Be interesting to do our best 23 in the 2000’s …. be a hell of a team..and Danger could arguably be the best in it. Closer to GASr than Jr was … its probably only his kicking that his been a bugbear he has had to endure .. and compared to GA5 .. his longevity is now putting him in a very special spot in the Cat HOF.

A few more accolades:
Dangerfield graduated from the AIS-AFL Academy and toured South Africa in early 2007. In October 2007, he won the 100m and 400m titles at the Victorian Secondary Schools Athletics. Whilst at school he was also a school captain at Oberon High School.

In our house: when the 4 y.o. met him she said "You go to the same Church as my friend"
Priorities :)

Religious fella, is our PFD? Good on him that he makes no big deal about it. Ollie Dempsey is another that just quietly goes about it (as far as I know).

And a few AAs to add to that list

TOM STEWART

He is always so happy win, lose or draw and you would never know. He has had such a great impact on this footy club and on the AFL in general, he just means so much to so many. He has picked me up when I have been down, he has celebrated me when I have been playing at my best. I can't thank him and love him enough."

Really love this article, and quotes like this one from our #44. For all the nonsensical FIGJAM calls that we've heard from people over the years (even including some of our own supporters, if you can believe it), these snippets from teammates tell you everything you need to know about how selfless and team-focused he has always been.

To be both that good and that committed to seeing others around you succeed as well is a rare gift. How blessed we have been to have Paddy come home and give it his all in his beloved hoops for all these years. Would be truly magnificent to see him add his illustrious name to our list of esteemed premiership captains before he hangs up the boots.

He also needs 12 brownlow votes to take the record career total. I think he's probably going to surpass that this year given he's probably got a couple of 3s early

2nd best player I have seen play for the GFC since the 70s. And if your 2nd best only to Gary Ablett Snr, well, what more can you say.
Agree, and I go back to the early 60's.
GAJ comes close
I have them as top 3.
Loving JC as well
We are a blessed team, no doubt about it.
And just as we lose Cam Guthrie and Duncan as far as potency, along come Holmes and Smith.
I think we attract great players partly because Danger did the jump, and he is very charismatic.

Stewie and Danger seem to have a beautiful friendship - they are always posting photos from joint family holidays during the off season and dinner parties during the season.

That was great seeing all his 22GF goal assists. There were so many dream like moments that day, but how perfectly deserved, after all he has given to see him with the cup. Go get another one Patrick!

A beaut article. Some people questioned Paddy's leadership attributes when Joel retired. Seems like his team mates love him.

I suspect it has grown him immensely as a person
I think he's a natural leader anyway. I remember him being interviewed by GAJ at a Brownlow dinner while he was still a Crow, as the next big thing, and he oozed confidence and class, but not in a big-headed manner.
