He keeps getting mentioned everywhere and I have a huge bug up my arse about him. I may have been to the wrong games because the effectiveness of Kommer's defensive efforts only ever seems to extend as far as the chases which the TV captures (which is no where near enough). Watching the replay of the Carlton match confirmed as much.

He'd be leading the competition in "almost tackles".

Can you get the pressure acts stat from anywhere?

The afl is woefully inadequate at anything stats related

So wrong. I love the thought you put into your posts, Bruno, but this is a typically way-off conclusion from you. Kommer is constantly harassing and applying pressure. Watching at the games it is even more evident. I really wonder how you could think any differently on this topic.

I just use my eyes. He is no where near as effective as Davey is (except for the Carlton game). I know something is up when he gets all the plaudits when Davey is twice as effective.

I think the biggest issue is that we have a forward who doesn't even come close to threatening the scoreboard.

Bingo.

You can't fault his endeavour, but ultimately he's just not having enough impact at the moment.

Endeavour does not equal effective pressure though. Biggest issue is offensive but it is no small elephant in the room that he is about half as effective defensively as everyone seems to think he is. If Howlett was used in the position you be looking at about 10 tackles per game.

Don't disagree that he's not kicking as many goals as we need from him. Hope he ups the ante in this area.

komme didnte threaten the scorboard in the pre-season. its tough when you bring a midfielder from the wafl and try to convert them into a defenwive forwqrd.what was his goal scoring record in the wafl?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he's another mature age recruit that really blossoms after a second afl preseason. Think of guys like Howlett, Hibberd, Baguley and possibly Dell'olio. The gap between afl and state level fitness is significant and it seems to take that extra preseason to bridge the gap for many players.

He hasn't done enough to hold down a best 22 spot week in week out this year and I'm keen to see the likes of Merrett, Jetta and Colyer get some chances as well. Also the idea of a purely defensive forward is less effective than one might think because it just means that the HBF that they are supposed to be shutting down, don't even worry about their opponent and just run off at will. Kommer has not shown yet that he can punish this play on any kind of consistent basis. Basically he needs to acquire a few more strings to his bow before he is an good afl level small forward.

However to his credit, he has had some really important moments. I think of him tackling Cotchin in the Richmond game and some of his harass and tackling has caused extremely valuable forward half turnovers. So he has something to work with and he's still only 21 so his best may be still ahead of him. I'm not writing him off but I think he needs to develop more.

Well it may be tough, but the reality is that he's just not effective enough.

Reminds me of a wind up toy.

As Bruno mentioned, he has 100% Endeavour, chases every time. But it does not equal effective pressure. He does a miss a lot of tackles/fall over/chase falls short. But It is great to see someone who does give it 100% every time.

Also interesting to note, he hasn't been dropped this season at all.

You are telling me that he is not effective - I questioned his role/position in the pre-season.
