Unless the nerds of the world have miscalculated, we should be waking up to the news of a 3G iPhone tomorrow morning.

So long as the reviews are positive, it looks like I picked a good time to be falling out of contract!

i ahvent looked at the iphone...but u do know that 3G frequencies here in australia are unique and consequently rarely do phones not produced in australia offer 3g frequencies that we use

There's been quite a few sources that have said that pic in the first post are fake, but there's almost guaranteed that there will be a 3G Iphone in Aus.

AUSTRALIANS could be among the first in the world to get their hands on the next-gen iPhone in just 10 days.

The Apple rumour mill is in overdrive with speculation the new model has already reached Australian shores ahead of its world-wide unveiling tomorrow.

Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs will announce a new product widely rumoured to be a 3G-model iPhone at the Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco tomorrow morning.

Despite the iPhone being confirmed for Australian release sometime this year, no official date has been set.

either way, most reviews of the phone I've read have said it's ***1/2 out of *****

would anyone be buying this if it weren't made by apple? ;)

Yeah, they've been a few fakes. We'll know tomorrow morning!
They were fakes indeed.

I think the main selling point will be the eventual price. It's as cheap as chips relatively speaking, as people want to compare it with the Samsung Instinct or HTC Diamond Touch, but it is not in that class, and they go for over a grand. At a few hundred bucks plus change for the 16 Gb model, it's a good lower end option.

A bit disappointing, but I really just want a personal phone that can sync music with my Powerbook and answer calls, and occassionally access the net in times of pure boredom.

Looks like I will be unlocking it for Telstra - I get no Vodafone or Optus reception here whatsoever.

I hope we will be able to purchase through an Apple reseller, although it is starting not to look like it.

Telstra haven't been named as providers yet, but it'd be hard to see why they wouldn't.

The phone will be released on 11 July, so there is plenty of time to sort out a deal (and remember it's Telstra, so they will be dumber than the others).

I very nearly got a new phone a month or so ago but just couldn't find anything with the features I was after in a reasonably sized package. I was also mindful of the fact that this beauty was on the horizon. Christ am I glad that I held off on doing anything (even though it has meant tolerating my Sony Ericsson with a dodgy joystick for even longer). Even if the 16Gb version is A$400.00, which it won't be given the US$299.00 price, that is amazingly cheap. This is really going to put the wind up the competition.

Would you be commenting on it if it wasn't made by Apple? Care to give us links to these reviews of a phone that has just today been officially announced?

Don't like the plastic back cover, cost cutting measure I know, but it'll make it feel cheap.

Don't forget the $US199 price is if it's locked onto the AT&T network in the US for 12 months (might be 24, can't remember)

Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be a similar price here with Vodafone or Optus.

beaumont911 - I am with Vodafone & I get no reception at home. However I use National Roaming & switch to the Telstra network at home. You should look into that!

Jobs made a comment at the keynote that it would be the same pricing worldwide, though we'll pay more for up mobile data deals without a doubt, it.s very possible we'll get the thing for around i'd say ~$250 w/ tax.

Haven't been at work for a few days, but spoke to someone there today who said there was a line to find out if we would be selling them (I work at Nextbyte). They had to put up a sign saying it'll be on sale on the 11th of July.

Holy smokes that is a stunning price.

Apple are going to grab a massive slice of the phone market and are at the same time going to be introducing masses of new people to the brand.

The ultimate loss leader, very clever. They are running rings around Microsoft.

Im super keen to get one of these.

Just a few questions:

-Will it replace my iPod mini?
-I have an optus pre paid, will i still be able to use it?
-I normally recharge with $30, can i take full advantage of its features without wasting all my credit?

Cheers guys.

I would be commenting if it got this much hype.

and I was talking about the IPhone in general, not this specific model, and the reviews always hovered between 3.5 and 4 out of 5

I am not a fan of Apple at all. Think the ipod itself is the most overrated piece of junk for it's price.

However I will be buying the iPhone if it comes out as 16Gb for <$400. My mp3 player is almost dead (4 years old, turns off by itself nowadays) and this being 3.5 out of 5 for a "top of the line" phone is perfectly fine by me seeing as how it is more than 50% cheaper than 5/5 phones. I have no interest in sending MMS so not having that function doesn't faze me 1 bit.

I hate the phone.

I've used one of my work mates and working for a Apple Reseller we've had people coming in for a year now trying to show it off to us or at least 50 people a day asking if we sell it.

It's just a phone, the good thing is it will get rid of the need to carry a ipod & phone.

I want to see how .mac works with it now they have made a few changes.

What was the leaked price?

I believe its $79 cap that includes 1 gb of data dn $300 worth of calls per month, plus the $200 overall ($5-$10p/m on top of $79)

Hopefully Voda finds out Optus's prices first then beats it, because lets be honest if you beat your competitors in terms of pricing, you'll probably get a larger % of the new customers.
