There was a post previously about how the pace of the game and the small lists would prevent players playing > 400 games in the future.

IMHO the most likely player to actually achieve this would be Ben Hart of Adelaide.

Hart is 26 and has played 202 games since 1992 (9 years 22.4 games p.a....quite impressive).

If he can maintain his mainly injury free form and the Crows make the finals a few times (so he can keep up this average) he will break 400 in just under 9 years...which would make him 35. As a defender this is not impossible.

Can anyone think of another player with a better chance ?

Of course Bradley has already played more than 400 games as he played 99 for Port (but they don't count of course !!)

ptw,

Chris Grant has played over 200 games and is only about 26/27 years old. I'm sure Westy or one of the other dogs fans (or Dan24) will know his age and statistics.

Nathan Burke has just turned 31 and barring injuries will play his 300th game in Round 8 at Manuka Oval against the kangaroos. He is contracted for 2002 as well. Being the small, in and under type of player that he is, I fear that the 400 mark will be out of his reach because of the many knocks he has received.

Burkey debuted in 1987 so has averaged 20.85 games a year which is great. Especially when over the period of his career, St Kilda have only competed in finals during the 1991,92,97 and 98 seasons.

Chris Grant isn't a chance, hes played 230 and he turns 29 in December. So its going to take him about 7/8 seasons to get there.
If Burke getst to 400 it would prove his greatness (if he hasn't already).

Keep your eye on John Blakey, he has played 325 games and although 35 is as still as fit as ever and is not injury prone. He never misses a game and plays about 25 games a year. He will most likely play next year putting him up around the 370 mark. With a bit of luck he could get there.

I was going to say Ben Hart. If he doesn't cop a major injury and he plays 20 games per year, he will be the most likely player to reach 400. It's hard to believe he is only 26. Remarkable. I like Ben Hart actually.

Not only is he very talented. But he is humble, committed, and respected. He doesn't crave attention, and he doesn't gloat in victory. No one would be more deserving of it than him.
