I think our side at rd 1 will be vastly different to the the team in say rd 12
Konstanty should play round 1 - tagging Rozzee. Doesn't mean he plays round 2 and definitely doesn't mean he will play Round 12.

Konstanty can't be an every week player like last year - that said, he has excellent defensive attributes which the bulk of our team don't have.

Should be horses for courses for him - if there is an obvious defensive job for him then play him - if not then bring a goal kicking small forward into team with Dovaston (probably Banch next in queue but Harvey could also play that attacking role and even Duursma if he gets his act together).

Zurhaar's presence as a best 23 lock is a bit annoying. A set up with Larkey, Darling, Trembath, Dovaston, Konstantys and Curtis would do some damage imo. Maybe Banch as the seventh. But with Zurhaar locked and loaded as a medium forward, being ok in the air, ok at ground level, and shit defensively, we kind of contradict the typical modern forward system.

Fortunately, in our wisdom, we have two other medium forwards aside from him waiting in the wings

Not every fan. You take the good with the bad.

We made the prelims or better for every one of my teenage years...

Good times are closing in.

Yes.

If I were 30 or younger I'd be questioning my life choices (or choices made for me). But as a certain vintage, I'm quite comfortable.

A rough line up of players I've been fortunate enough to have witnessed over the last 50 years..

Pickett Dench Martyn
King Glendinning Archer
Greig Stevens Schwass
Abraham Carey Grant
Harvey Blight McKernan
Goldstein Schimmlebusch J Krakouer
Larkin Longmire P Krakouer Sheezel Cunnington Petrie Crosswell Breidas Dempsey Abernethy Roberts Sholl Allison

I'm sure I've forgotten a good number.

Not many supporters of other clubs could put together a better team than that over the same period.

Merry Christmas.

And for 2000s North a preliminary final is like a premiership, reaching the finals is like being in a grand final and being the best team outside the finals (in our own estimation) is like reaching the finals.

So the 2010-2019 period was actually very successful.

2 premierships, 2 grand finals and another 3 finals appearances.

If expected score flags were issued back then we would've needed a 500 tb virtual trophy cabinet.

John Blakey
I have him on a list. How the hell can you let your son play for the opposition when NMFC took you on as an old man saving you from the carcass that was Fitzroy, gave you 2 Premierships, one after you personally handed Adelaide one in 1998 due to your own incompetence and then (the cherry on top) offer you a job. Utterly ridiculous behaviour from us. Time to grow some balls.

Not only that, but his second worst ever game (behind the 1998 GF) was in the 1994 Prelim.

I would have thought our inaccurate kicking from quite a few had more to do with it in 1998.

Agreed, but still, he should have made his son a North fan.

It was the least he could have done. Just for a second imagine Neck in "Claiming 12's" spot. Just imagine.

FML.

What happened to his trial across the back half? wasn't it talked about during pre-season?

His pressure and close down speed would actually be handy back there. Leave the small forward roles to Banga & Dov.

His lack of ball finding ability and his shit kicking when he does get it would kill us.

That we preferred Harvey is telling.

It’s frustrating we have a good athlete in JK. Strong tackler (ask Mills 😎), quick and has a little mongrel about him.

If he can just kick, handball, score and make sensible decisions in the heat of the battle we might just have a player here.

I said last year he left about 15 goals on the table and should have converted. When he did convert, he shushes the Blues crowd when we are getting pumped. 2025 rating = Meh

Our trade bar is so low that a bloke playing every game as a forward and kicking less than 0.5 a game was considered a pretty good return.

Is his tank any good? Could he put his physicality to any kind of useful end as a defensive mid?

Too small man, the best defensive mids have a bit of height and can cover the ground.

If you are sub 180cm (I'm looking at you WhilPhil) it's unlikely that you are going to have the right tools to compete against a wide variety of mids.

I don't care if he can't get the ball in the back half, we have others who can distribute the ball. I just want him to be able to lock down and minimise the impact of oppo small forwards and half forwards.

Having Harvey back there along with Kerch, Daniel and Comben just shows me that we don't actually value one on one defending.
