The brown snake supposedly has one of the least painful bites which is why many people become unsure if they’ve been bitten or were just scratched by a stick as they aren’t in a lot of pain straight away. Other snakes however are very painful.

Closest I’ve been to being bitten was last summer, weeding the overgrown veggie patch and I saw the end part of the snake slither past my hand. No more weeding for me.

That was just the last time he was seen. Who knows what he got up to. Logic dictates if he got up from the sand pile to wander off it was likely toward something or something piqued his interest.

There was a media report that said police/searchers had encountered heaps of brown snakes and police told the media (who’d been asked to stay away from the homestead) that if they were bitten they could go up to the medical van situated near the homestead.

My wife has had two Easterns rear up at her and the b collie the last fortnight.

Bloody thins mustn’t have enjoyed brumation this year. I was a little jealous as I’m trying to get some good shots of them.

I’m on 30 acres , I’ve only seen two live snakes in our 10 years on this block and one shed skin which was 5ft long and found in our pool area

Oh so there's snakes about yet they thought it was fine to leave a 4yo kid alone outside unsupervised for half an hour where snakes are present. OK.

I have had brown snakes passing through my SA rural township property for several weeks. It's the norm where l live. There is no way l would allow my grandsons (all under 10) to play outside unaccompanied. To do so would be totally irresponsible and a breach of my duty of care, family or not.

I just caught a bit of the footage, but it looked like she was carrying a gun and waving a finger at the journo. We don't know if the shotgun (or the finger) was loaded.

What use would an unloaded shotgun be against a snake?

So.... the snake was seen on the verandah, the shotgun was retrieved and loaded, then the snake was 'dispatched', as the journalist approached the property (undeterred by hearing the shotgun blast), and the resident was merely coincidentally holding the (now empty) shotgun while yelling at the journo to get off the property? Cool story bro.
Did anyone see the dead snake? Or the discharged pellets on the verandah? (It would have made a bit of a mess of the verandah). Pretty brave of the journo to approach the property when a shotgun had just been fired.
But yeah, nothing to see here. "Legitimate use".

The house is probably bugged, so the cops would have heard it I'd think if the gun was discharged.

Of course not. Just that the story, as told, does not make sense to me, as it is not consistent with the video footage and other evidence.

The cop may have been misinformed, may have made a mistake, may have innocently included incorrect or inconsistent or non factual information. Nobody said anything about lying.

Imo there's a lie somewhere in this whole sad event.

Whether it's deliberate, or by omission I don't obviously know, but I can't help think it's there, somewhere.

Well Linda Williams understanding was totally wrong as the dam was drained from 1 dam to the next and then returned.

One would think a Deputy Commissioner would know exactly how a Police Operation is being undertaken.

So yeah IMO the so called snake could just be a huge white lie told.

Yes I think the snake whether it was there/shot or not is just an excuse.
Police are probably aware of the excuses when if it’s true the gun could have been put down and it must have happened a fair time before if it did happen if reporters have mosied on up to the house, not hearing a shot.
Surely police would have some thoughts on whether Josie thinks this was acceptable behaviour even if stress is a factor.

No I'm not saying she told a lie at all. She's only saying what she understands, like I said she had no idea about the draining of the dam either.

We've caught them out lying many times actually. lol Not that I'm suggesting they are lying now but not long ago and if I can find it will post it in here, either the NSW or Victoria Police Commissioner admitted they sometimes lied as a media strategy.

Yeah well by the sounds there was only 4 people on that property, so it's all their word against each other in regards to a snake whether it was there or not.

Jonica Bray has audio footage on her Tik Tok account of the incident and after watching/hearing that. It clearly shows that a person has huge anger problems, so it makes me wonder how unsafe was the environment for Gus in the first place.
