Yea an accident or a loss of temper old mate was quick to pull out the shotty for a female journo
Sadly the cops seem to be only officially looking at a couple of possibilities, it has never seemed to me to be a coherent investigation. How effective is strategic ambiguity ?

I hope they know more than they are letting on and this isn't another William Tyrell mistake of putting to much faith in the family initially

I'm disappointed, but not surprised about the police response.

At one point in the William Tyrrell investigation, one of the detectives said openly to the foster mother, "Nobody gives a *** about that little kid".

Sadly, this is true about Gus as well. Not enough people care enough. Police probably want to just close the case with a minimum of effort and move on to 'more important' stuff ... "He's lost, we can't find him - the property is too big, yada yada yada". There are no family connections coming forward on behalf of the family asking for help or answers.

The same would probably have happened with William if the foster parents were not wealthy and connected to a PR company who launched a public campaign and bombarded the media with pictures of William and emotional pleas etc. Also, as William was in the foster care system and had biological parents who were concerned about him, social workers and public advocates (e.g. Allanna Smith) came forward asking questions and seeking resolution. The NSW Government was also somewhat on the hook as William's legal guardian.

But Gus is from rural SA, not suburban Sydney. He has no advocates asking for answers.
Even the media have gone pretty cold on this after only a month.

This is the world we live in.

Is it any wonder, when the last media person to dare to report from the place Gus went missing came face to face with a pump action shotgun.

What do we expect media to do, start rocking up to Oak Park with Kevlar vests?

Live Reporting is done.
Investigating is done.

And we can thank SAPOL for that, and Josie who clearly has a hot temper and was doing something that was unsafe.

You can't expect reporters to continue under those conditions, it's done.

That's what happens when freedom of the press goes to absolute shit.

Imo

pump action shotgun.
Are you sure it was a pump action and not a bolt action or break apart? Because if so, it would require a special Category licence, and also would cast doubt on claims it was no longer loaded when raised when the DM reporter was there.

Yes, it was a pump action and that would require Class C or Class D firearms license.

It was probably loaded because the police said it was ready to dispatch a snake, and so then it would need to have a bullet in it. Imo

Right, so it would also have been loaded then when the reporter was present. Most pump-actions take between 4 and 8 shells at a time. So unless it took multiple shots to dispatch the alleged snake, it was most likely loaded.

It seems unusual that we haven’t heard any local person mention having known or met little Gus. Like nice stories of what a sweet little boy he was, liked to help mum, dad or grandparents with the shopping or getting supplies for the farm etc. Either Yunta and surrounds are the most private country townsfolk in Australia or very few people, if any, ever came into contact with Gus.

Can anyone find where Bulyninnie Station near Yunta is?
There was a siege there in 2009 where a criminal (pedophile) shot an officer and stole a car and drove to this station and sexually assaulted a 70 year old woman then shot himself dead.

The correct spelling is Bullyaninnie, they got the selling wrong in the article from 2009.

It's adjacent to Oak Park.

Map attached. Victim was a 75 year old woman. So sad.

Attached photo of the area. If you also do some family research on Shannon you'll find that Shannon's grandparents owned Bullyaninnie and was then passed down to Shannon's aunt.

As of 2022 Shannon's aunty * was still at Bullyaninnie Station.

Police stating they will search the property again
Oh has this just been said?

Just read the article and no timeframe given.

Commissioner Stevens said Task Force Horizon, which is specifically focused on uncovering information about the missing four-year-old, would continue to analyse information that could allow the investigation team and search teams to revisit the property.
“We’ve been acting on the advice of survivability experts, doctors, medical staff, in relation to how far Gus might travel and how long and how long he would be able to survive without any support or assistance,” Mr Stevens said.
“That was a factor that dictated how far we would search and how long.
“We are continuing to go back because we are still committed to recovering Gus for the family, so everybody has some sense of closure in relation to what’s occurred up in Yunta.”
Mr Stevens has not revealed an exact timeframe as to when their teams will come back to the property, instead saying it will be “based on further analysis of data” and “further advice” from experts.

Was it * that was assaulted in 2009?
I didn't know that property was connected to Gus's family.
I have read about this and about other incidents close by.

This happened in Oulnina in 2017.

Not 100% sure but the age does match up.

Yep another sad incident for the area, unfortunately I think that case was DV.
The mum is still missing.
The husbands brother also committed suicide.

For a place in the middle of nowhere there seems to be some major incidents happening

It's a 45 minute drive into Yunta and it's a very small town. It's possible no one knows him there. Peterborough is a slightly bigger town so they might go there for supplies. But if they are driving a ute for a couple of hours down dirt roads they probably wouldn't take the kid.

The remoteness of the area might explain the sporadic nature of the police searches. There's little accommodation to cater for large teams. They might be bussing people in from Adelaide each time, which is a 4 hour drive each way.

* was 75 in 2009.

She's still alive today, bless her soul.

The SA police are treating this as a missing person, publicly at least. So they can't offer a reward for information.

But I wonder if one of the family members might talk to the media if given a financial incentive. Different scenarios, but the family of Cleo Smith signed a deal for an exclusive interview with Channel Nine, reportedly for $2 million.
