$50 Million into the coffers of Freo after a record profit year, record store sales and a record membership with more members ready to sign and part with their hard earned has put the
Dockers in the top 5 earning clubs with Collingwood at $70 mil still the front runner
Not bad for a little non Vic club that has put up with crap fixtures for years
To the Steves and all concerned with the running of the club bloody great job:thumbsu::rainbow:

Oh, salim. Why do you do this?

$50M isn't exactly in the coffers, that's the turnover. Let's just wait and see what's left over before blowing a gasket.

We just played in a grand final, naturally bandwagoner receipts are up, but before you get overly excited about the record memberships, you should consider where they should be at right now if it wasn't for the negative hit we took as a result of the shambolic rebranding exercise.

Any proof we took a negative hit with the rebranding? I'm fairly sure that merchandise is everywhere and was a huge windfall for the club.

I agree. If anything, the rebranding prompted many fans to update their wardrobe.

Although The West's article definitely did refer to it as $50 million turnover, not profit.

Check the membership records. We have only just caught up with our numbers from 5 years ago. That's a huge loss of potential.

Sure, we made a heap on new merchandise that everybody had to have, but that sort of boost is fleeting. The sustainable money is in building the membership base.

God I sound like a killjoy.

Any major global financial events happen in that time?

I'd say the "Members Round" getting everyone to buy the white stuff is what probably pushed it over the edge. Genius move by the club.

I would argue that the membership fell due to Fremantle being out of contention. Now we are back in contention therefore we see a natural increase in support. The financial tests of good clubs is how well they fair financially when they aren't doing so well ( a test we passed by all measures). Hopefully we make the most of our on-field success which is positive not just financially but also for our reputation (ie. help in progressing our discussions to continue at Fremantle).

You're really going to go with that?

He really is, and quite rightly so. Add to that the 25% price rise that has been achieved in the same time and we've got a very solid club financially. By the way, football clubs don't exist to make profits. They try and win premierships. Therefore revenue is a more significant measure than profit (spend what you hAve on trying to get better).

You're really going to go with that?

I'm honestly not quite sure what angle you're approaching this from. We have our highest membership tally ever, our highest turnover ever (even after adjusting for inflation), we just had our best ever on-field finish, we have the greatest coach in the league and we've still got a ton of space left in the salary cap to ensure we can sustain our list long term.

What's not to like?

Don't forget the very popular Aboriginal round jersey's too.

Hah. Memberships were up 5 years ago because we were looking like making a grand final within a year or two back then. Now, after making a grand final, memberships are up. Surprise...?

Memberships will be up next year. Corporate sponsorship will be up also. Sustained success helps make sustained growth.

As has been mentioned, the merchandise rebranding probably temporarily boosted our revenue due to fans wanting to be seen in the new stuff. Personally, I didn't find the rebranding shambolic. I don't even know what you mean by that. What would have been shambolic is if we'd rebranded and kept losing. By winning, people have generally subconsciously associated the rebranding with that on-field success. Unless, of course, they've been so emotionally involved that they harbor a burning resentment. But those are probably the same people that would not mind if we kept getting the wooden spoon each year as long as we treated Mark Harvey nicer and were allowed to bring the anchor on to the ground each home game still.

$1 million in merch sold during September alone is seriously impressive :thumbsu:

And it wasn't just people getting on the bandwagon (which I couldn't care less about – they must have good taste). Plenty of 'ardcores felt a weird, indescribable need to buy something new. Apparently the shelves in every shop were completely empty, with only flotsam like keyrings and coffee cups left at the club shop.

Even as a povvo uni student, I felt like buying something. But the online shop had bupkis.

That $50 million is still only behind a few clubs. You have to remember the relative disadvantage Fremantle had. The club came into a state, nearly a decade too late, against a club with home grown players and two flags. Then there's the decade of no finals footy, 2001, and you're dealing with a pretty unfashionable base.

In terms of membership revenue, the Dockers are only behind the perennially strong West Coast and Collingwood. The Pies speak for themselves – they can give away memberships and sell three game ones for $25 and still be Lulie Streets ahead. The Eagles, as will happen with Freo in a few seasons, are in the embarrassing position where people pay to not attend matches. Being ahead of clubs like Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, the Crows... it's good work for a club who have always been a laughing stock.

And if anyone wants to criticise the WAFC for taking away some money from Freo and the Eagles... nah. Some of that commission money will be pissed away, but most of it will be useful – it is the role of the two AFL clubs to help fund the WAFL, the ammos, country football, junior football...

Where has this figure come from? Impressive if true, even if it is a turnover figure. Will flow on for 2014 as well, as I expect membership to be a lot higher.

Oh Reg stop, think and smell the roses.

it's a goods indication that we're well on they to positioning ourselves as a major club in the competition. just need to get the cockburn facilities sorted and a new stadium. in the meantime, ross will have a lot of money to be spending on the footy department. i'm sure there would be a few things he and suma would be wanting to try out from those overseas junkets they take.

The problem for some people now is that there's nothing to complain about ;)
