Guys,
I was absolutely stoked to get onto the 5AA talkback after tonight's game.

The guys were actually more interested in talking about Uganda than the footy.

Absolutely stoked with the win. I suppose you like to kid yourself that someone was listening!!:D

I heard your call.

So tell me how that tax thing going? :p

And for the love of god don't go north :D

Just as I type that England takes a lead. Own goal.

Thanks for asking, I think that Uganda has moved from no 9 up to number 6 in the International Corruption rankings according to Transparency International. All I can say is that the other 5 in front of them must be pretty crooked

I am really looking forward to heading back to Oz and watching the games - either attending or on TV.

Had a call today about working in Egypt for a spell but I will at least get a couple of months back in Oz, maybe longer.

Rayven,
from the top politicians to re-licensing your car the corruption is well entrenched. The police are just a joke.

People here just accept this as normal.

We Australians are so lucky (not that luck has much to do with it) that we don't experience corruption anything like that which goes on here. It is seriously tragic.

The people in power have no interest in changing it either, which makes the job pretty challenging.

Sorry I didn't hear you. I usually listen to all the post-match chat, but I was so sick of McDermott that I had to turn the radio off. I just can't stand that man. :thumbsd:

It is a well known fact that some states in Australia have the best police force that money can buy. ;)

Please don't take offense Tinman because this is not directed at you personally.....but I have noticed that the trend over the last few weeks after AFC games has seen the commentary team more interested in ex-pats talking about their 0/S experiences and marvelling at the fact that these places have radios, telephones, and the internet as well, instead of actually talking about the game....(Last week after the Essendon game i nearly drove into a wall just to escape Wildy's innane drivell about life in Asia.)

Hopefully 5AA might make a special time slot available for these types of calls...say 1am to 4am on a Wednesday or something, and return talkback after the game......to the ACTUAL game.

 ;) :)

No offence taken at all Mad Dog. In fact after a series of questions about Uganda, poverty, politics etc. I said to them "I actually called to talk about the footy".:)

I think that it has recently dawned on the 5AA radio team that listeners all around the world can listen over the internet. I suppose it makes for more interesting radio than the peanut who phones in to bag the commentary or with little or nothing to say, but asides from basic pleasantries I agree the subject should be kept to footy.

I was surprised that they asked questions about here.

Didn't hear you Tinman - but if KG was on-air that night .... well he's not exactly worldly. He thinks going overseas is buying an icecream from the kiosk on Granite Island.

But here it is so much cheaper;)

Try 20,000 Ugandan Shillings if you are pulled over drink driving......about A$15.

I don't drink drive because of the potential consequences (driving here is dangerous enough with full faculties), but some of the Pommy expats in particular drive blind drunk as they know that UGS 20,000 is going rate their 'get out of gaol free card'.:thumbsd:

Next time he visits maybe they should take his passport away so he has to stay there:D

I remember when I called in last year from the UK and the comment was what does it sound like over the internet? I really had to bite my tounge as I explained that it sounds just like a radio and depends on the speakers that you have plugged into the computer. I think someone needs to teach Rowey about the wonders of the the computer age.

They had a caller from London just prior to me and when i said I was in the Leeds I was then asked if I was related or knew the caller from London as they were just around the corner from me. Well boys try 3 hours down the M1 until you hit London then add another hour once you reach London, yeah they are just around the corner

I'll wager your bandwith is a little better there than here, my god you probably even get broadband

It frequently drops out here and listening requires some persistance. The 12 hour power outages are also a bit of a problem, fortunately we live somewhere with a diesel generator.:thumbsu:

I must confess, I'm still pretty amazed that I can listen to Crows matches in Kampala, even with the dodgy connection.

One of the great irritations of listening to KG. Every time they talk to someone overseas, KG's always going on about "awwww, I'd love to go there". Well guess what Ken, you can. Unlke most people you can afford to go anywhere in the world, any time you please. So please - stop blathering on about how you'd love to be a world traveller because we all know you'd break out in hives once you crossed the SA border.

Sounds really interesting, can I ask what work you are doing in Uganda?

Interesting assumption about KG and money. My understanding is that the situation is nothing like you've assumed for a variety of reasons.

Well, I'm not assuming he's Bill Gates, just he has been in (presumably) very well paid media gigs for many years now and overseas travel is not something he'd have to struggle for. If there are reasons he's got no dough then OK, and I won't ask you to talk about rumours here.

My thinking arrowman is that is probably more likely his absolute fear of flying - he could always take the time off to travel via cruise ship instead.....

I'm no longer in the UK - back in good ol oz now, but yes did love the virgin adsl 2+ with unlimited downloads :D

The only problems I ever had were the stupid afl site not linking correctly to games and then no one being on their help desks to correct the problem because it was a weekend - Pfft

I'm amazed you can listen to matches in Uganda, the world is a much smaller place now than we think.

Just Maybe - you should have been listening to the talkback ;)

Anyway, thanks for asking.:thumbsu:

I'm just in the dying stages of a 7 month contract helping the Ugandans modernise their tax system. There is tons of work to do here and 7 months doesn't even touch the edges. The project is funded by the Poms.

There is a chance I may be back again next year for a longer contract but it really depends on what else comes up. I would like to be back in Oz for awhile to watch the footy, I miss seeing the games like you wouldn't believe.

My wife has been suggesting calling the talkback line all season, and so I did this week.

Sort of on topic...

Does anyone know how to listen to audio on the afl site with a mac? :( I'm going to be overseas from round 18 - so obviously I can't miss out on hearing how we go in the finals

Stupid Macs

Watch what you say about macs in my hearing  ;)

You listen in exactly the same way as a pc, just click on the link in the afl site and it will open up in windows media player (which most macs have anyway). If you don't have it, then download it from microsoft as a mac version.
