Does anybody other then Pies supporters care about the fact they only have a six day break. They finished higher on the ladder, but is it plausible due to their favourable draw of 18 games in Melbourne, 14 of which are at the MCG, and only 4 flights out of Melbourne (and no trip down to Skilled Stadium in Geelong) may have contributed heavily to their ladder position above the Crows. The AFL is consistent in deciding unfair draws during the season, so it makes sense they do the same in the finals series, just surprising it's Collingwood.

Adelaide has to travel to Melbourne...so kinda even things out.

These are "professional athletes" so harden up.

Who cares, on the night the best side will win.

Just have to wait and see if that's the crows or the pies.

Unfortunately it gives some pie fans an excuse if we lose.

Champion teams find ways to overcome hiccups like this. Are Collingwood good enough to do so?

I don't think Pies supporters care that it is a 6 day break and neither does the team.

We have a double chance, on our home deck and like many I cannot wait until Saturday night.

It's actually more exciting that the game is alot closer.

Good teams always find a way to win.

This is no exception.

Adelaide has the longer break.
Collingwood doesn't have to travel, and will have home ground advantage.

It works out even.

some of these comments are obviously made by a generation who've only known the reign of this pathetic administration - it only values the $, with the administration of fairness and equity in its competition a negligble concern.

it's typical of the AFL's modern era history of replacing apples with oranges, or in this case, Adelaide's combination of travel but 2 extra sleeps vs Collingwood's home state advantage. i'd like to know the formula used to come up with the result that "it works out even".

the schedule must be administered fairly for all teams before the fact. Had Essendon won, and St Kilda lost, there wouldve been the situation where the 8th seeded team of the finals wouldve had the advantage over the 1st seed. it's just another example of AFL policy on the run and ensuring the $$$ keep coming in, but privately crossing their fingers and toes in hope that the worst case scenario doesnt eventuate.

yep couldn't care less about a 6 day break. it's exciting to still be alive and no doubt the fitness staff will prepare accordingly off a shorter break. win this week and the pies are 1 win v geel, a team they have gone well against in recent times, from another crack at the saints in the GF

and people can say what they like about yesterday's result and how st kilda strangled the pies etc etc. take n riewoldt out and it was a line ball game. no other saints forward threatened apart from a couple of flashes from kosi. get to the GF and anything can happen if riewoldt is less effective. big if because he is a superstar which yesterday just proved further but you never know...

How many times do we revisit the 'collingwood gets a favourable draw' debate as if it is Collingwood's fault. The draw is rigged in our favour not for collingwood but because of collingwood.

But St Kilda was granted the largest possible break in week one of the finals. If they had of gone on to lose against Collingwood, there is no way possible that you can engineer the draw to give St Kilda an advantage against Adelaide/Essendon, because the Adelaide v Essendon game would have had to be played earlier in the weekend than Saints v Pies to give the Saints the largest possible break in week 1.

Nice.

Here's one I particularly like

If the ladder included flags Collingwood would be ahead of Adelaide.

Your turn
If the AFL ladder included only AFL flags (and not VFL ones), then Adelaide would be ahead of Collingwood.

On the actual thread topic: right now Collingwood and Adelaide have won 15 games each this season. Collingwood got the long break in the first week of finals. The laws of the universe prevent it from being possible that Collingwood should also get the long break in the second week, otherwise I'm sure the AFL would have scheduled it so.
