No dominant teams like the Hawks, Swans, Tigers, Geelong.

I know people will laugh at me for mentioning the Swans but they were very good team for a long time made several GF's.
Could have easily won the Dogs GF if a few things went there way.

By Saturday night, half of the teams in the competition will have played in a grand final in the last 5 years.

Edit: this stat is also true for last year's grand final

We've recently finished one era (Richmond), had the last gasp of another (Geelong) and the other likely looking one (Melbourne) hasn't got going at all so at the moment it looks like an inbetween couple of years.

However, if either of the teams from this Saturday back up again next year the story looks different.

On that subject the fascinating stat is that North and Carlton played each other in the 1999 GF and nearly a quarter of a century later neither team have played one since.

It's just taken over the record from Fitzroy/Richmond, who met in the GF in 1944 with neither making another until Richmond in 1967.

The only other streak of 10 years or more is Fitzroy/Essendon, from 1923-41.
