7TWO's footy flashbacks - When do they return?

When do they come back?

No interest in watching repeats of old Australian Open matches

I couldn't believe when I saw they were going to stop showing old VFL/AFL games and were going to show old tennis matches. Who gives a stuff about that?

Hopefully when they do return (I assume they will) they will add some variety to their catalogue and not replay the same games over and over. Theres only so many times I can see Modra kicking 10 for Freo against Melbourne on a horrible Friday night at the G.

They can replay the 1990 Elimination Final though, someone deleted it from my HDD recorder before I got a chance to watch it.

Some of the games had been repeated about 5 times. It was about time they moved on to something different.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

they can repeat them all again - i lost my remote for 12 months so couldnt tune in the new HD channels when they came out.
found it again the last week of the season, so only got 1 week of it.
great to watch, so yes, play it again sam.

But surely they have a massive catalogue of games they can choose from? Even if they were just random H&A games from the 90's would be better than nothing.

Maybe they can't due to some arrangement with AFL Films/Sports Delivered.

That would be a bit strange though. I know there was some issue with the rights to footage around either 2002 or 2007 when the rights changed hands. But considering they were showing old finals, old Grand Finals and random H&A games (like the one I mentioned R10 1999 Melb v Freo among others) I would assume they would have the right to show any game for which they still had footgae? Otherwise why would they be able to show some games and not others? Similarly with Foxtel who show the odd game here and there. The toher day they showed the "Line In The Sand" match and prior to that a game from R1 1998 between NM & WCE. It would be a bit strange if they were only allowed to show certain games from their catalogue and not others.

Maybe they have to pay a fee to show games.

what they should do during the season is play a classic match featuring matchups that are going to take place for the upcoming round... 7 of the 8 matchups for each round would be covered, 1 per night, (any game involving Gold Coast would obviously not).

Best way to do that is to go through the match of the day for each round (decided by ladder position) and find a game from year's past (and not the last 10!! - there's some really good 70's and 80's stuff!)

Agree with that, although I'd concentrate on the Friday Night fixture if possible. Also remembering that Wednesday into Thursday they have home shopping so let's hope they don't extend it to every day.....

But here's how I'd have it. From Feb to the week before Pre-Season GF and the week between PS Cup and Premiership Season start I'd just have random matches.

The week of the PS Cup

SUNDAY: 1988 Pre-Season GF, HAW vs GEEL
MONDAY: 1993 Pre-Season GF, ESS vs RICH
TUESDAY: 1996 Pre-Season GF, ST.K vs CARL
WEDNESDAY: Home Shopping
THURSDAY: 1998 Pre-Season GF, NORTH vs ST.K
FRIDAY: 2001 Pre-Season GF: PORT vs BRIS
SATURDAY: Replay of the 2011 Pre-Season GF

ROUND 1 (FNF: Geel vs ST.K, therefore it's a Geelong vs St.Kilda week. A double header for Sunday is scheduled on the Saturday)

SUNDAY:
1991 EF (Cats by 7 pts)
MONDAY: R1 1998 (Saints by 10 pts)
TUESDAY: R17 2001 (Cats by 12 pts)
THURSDAY: R14 2009 (Saints by 6 pts)
FRIDAY: 2010 QF (Saints by 4 pts), followed by replay of R1 2011
SATURDAY (Melb vs Syd): R13 1993 (Syd drought breaker) followed by R17 2010

If there's a shortage of games relating to FNF, use the Sunday game. If no Sunday game and there's a shortage of FNF related games, then go into classic finals.

the gold coast games COULD be represented by, oh i dunno, CAJ. therefore every week show a recent geelong game against whoever, and super impose a yellow guernsey onto GAJ every time he's in shot. :D

agree :thumbsu::thumbsu: - go back as far as possible as often as possible.

Maybe they can't due to some arrangement with AFL Films/Sports Delivered.

The VFL/AFL, in their infinite wisdom, never asserted copyright over games prior to 1993, with the copyright belonging to Channel Seven.

That's why Seven was able to get away with wiping their catalogue of games in the early 90s. They owned the copyright, they could do what they wanted to.

Criminals.

Bad news....looks like they're going to put Coronation Street and Movies on after Jan 30.

For how long? Might just be between when the tennis finishes and the season proper starts.

At least I hope so.
