Although the fade-out on Thursday was disappointing, the real + was that we won AND it was the classic "8 point game" that we often hear about.
We have another this coming week against The Saints too.

If we really are going to press-up into the 8 this season, we need to keep ahead of others in a similar boat to us.... those that finished 9th - 13th last year + Nth who were 8th.

Other important games this season are:
R9 - v Essendon
R12 - v Adelaide (I reckon they will slide)
R14 - v Saints
R15 - V North
R20 - v Brisbane
R21 - v Carlton
R23 - v Essendon

If we can get across the line in say 6 of these 9... we will be close.
(The final 3 rounds might be pretty tense & exciting)

Target these games in particular Tigers, (& let's not drop any against the bottom few)

Re read the op and realised I was wrong.

While I agree with the premise of this thread, if the Tigers don't beat all of the teams that finished below them last year, then these will just be regular 4 point games on the way to finishing 10-12 on the ladder again.

First Half of Season:
Round 2 vs Saints - gives us a 2-0 start and puts us 1-2 games ahead of the other contenders already.
Round 4 vs Pies - could be a chance to go 4-0 to start the season. Do that and we're 1/3 of the way there already
Round 5 vs Freo - playing them there and a game that they would have pencilled in as a win.
Round 6 vs Geelong - another side with the wood over us, beat them and we could have started the season 4-2 at worse.
Round 9 vs Essendon - we could be 7-2/6-3 after this game at worse I expect us to be 5-4.
Round 10 vs West Coast - like the round 5 game we're over there and its the week before our bye. Being 7-3/6-4 or at worse 5-5 would set us up nicely heading into second half of season.

Second Half of Season:
Round 12 vs Crows - coming off the bye, playing here at the G, like round 1 a good result gets us going again.
Rounds 14-15 vs Saints/Roos - both teams are sides we'll be battling for the 8. Win both and we hopefully put a gap between us and them
Rounds 17-21 vs Freo(H) Sydney(A) Hawthorn(A) Lions(H) Blues(H) - tough run of 5 games leading into the finals. Need to go 3-2 at worse in this run to ensure we're September bound.
Round 23 vs Essendon - could be a massive win or go home game or a nice practice run for finals the following week.

To me these are the important games for the season. In these 15 games we need to win at least 8 add that to the round 1 win and take care of business in the 6 games we have against Suns Giants Dogsx2 Melbourne & Port and we have 15 wins the for the season and will guarantee ourselves finals.

Now I realise that some may suggest I'm looking too far ahead but I have no doubt the club would have done something very similar when they looked at the fixture.

Appreciate your post but geez i hope the players dont read it.One week at a time lets beat Saints first then reload for Bulldogs we cannot presume we will beat anyone. The game is played so much above the shoulders. We havent beaten Gold Coast yet remember. There are no certainies. We need to stay hungry & get ruthless when we have our foot on the throat!..Eatem Alive!

I would hope that the players do presume they can beat anyone, if not then there is little point. That's the difference between a middle of the road side and a very good side. The middle of the road sides often hopes they can win, the very good side expects to win every time they run out of the park.

Of course the players should expect to win every week we are good enough now.But we have to respect the opposition that we front each week.My main point is you totally disregarded the Bulldogs in round 3 saying we have a chance to go 4-0 if we beat the Maggies. We cannot take anything for granted coming from where we have.We need to stay mentally switched on.Not get ahead of ourselves!

The key IMO is winning those against fellow contenders.
Clearly if we drop games against GWS & heaven forbid the Gold Coast again then we don't deserve to make the 8 but the facts are that virtually ALL sides will have a surprise loss to someone.
If we can limit this and do best against other contenders, + pick up one or 2 surprise wins like perhaps we did lasy year, (the eventual finalists) then we set ourselves up.

Oh, & agree Dusty Cotch - respect the oposition each week.... otherwise we WILL drop winable ones.

I'm not disrespecting them at all, just saying that if we are to consider ourselves a genuine finals side then we shouldn't even be considering losing to them. Do you think the Hawks or Pies or Swans sit there when fronting up against the sides like the Dogs thinking shit we may lose. IMO they don't they front up knowing that they should win. We need to start getting the same mind set. Expect to win when we should not hope gee lets not stuff this up.

What we need to do Roachy is pulverise the saints and have the match in the bag by the big break and then put them away by 10+ goals...that will send a message that will be heard..

Disagree. Every game is worth 4 points. If we lost against Carlton and then lose to the Saints we'd be 0-2 and staring down the gun barrel. Having won against Carlton gives us 4 points and all points add up to the total required to make the finals.

Dogs looking awesome. Brisbane look like trash.

That they do but to be fair the Lions are playing on the road for the 4th/5th time in a row.

Don't give duritz that excuse. They haven't played for 2 weeks. Dogs skills look massively improved. We should still win but it won't be a walk in the park like last year.
