Ok, a couple of questions...

1) It is #9 we have isn't it?

2) Does anyone know a bit about who the top 10 are likely to be, or who's likely to be left at #9? Or where to find this info?

3) Which of these options would we want? We'd be looking at fast midfielders or ruckmen wouldn't we?

- take leuenberger if still available (highly unlikely)
- hislop, jetta, proud or one of those quick midfielders should be our next priority and i believe we'll be able to get at least one those
- take a look at jack riewoldt if he is still available.. don't necessarily need that type of player but i'd love him to play with nick and the kid culd become a superstar with that last name

If he's any good. Not sure we need two Clarkes, but we picked them for that reason. I'd bite the bullet and let him go, get a fast midfielder.

I think the Saints will go with Proud, he'll probably still be available by pick 9.

Yep. He's tough, fast, skilled, strong and wins his own ball. Is exactly what we need. If Proud is available and we go fot someone like Jetta or Leunberger I'll be spewing.

However if Proud is taken these would be the next candidates
1 - Selwood
2 - Leunberger
3 - Hislop

It's likely two of those three will be available so we will get a decent player. (Unless Beveridge decides to go with one of his smokeys - Frank Thompson: A 48 year old postman that kicked a goal at the MCG during little-league game when he was 6).

No way. We already have the god-like ruck prospect from the 2001 superdraft that everyone was pissing themselves over. Barry Brooks. He's played one good game in 6 years in the AFL, and there's nothing to rule out the possibility of Leunberger doing the same. Ruckmen are much harder to judge than midfielders.

Besides, we have numerous ruck options that will be better than Leunberger in the next couple of years while we have a shot at the flag, what we don't have is midfield depth. By all reports any of Proud, Selwood or Hislop could come in straight away and contribute.

i think stkilda is the only 2007 premiership contender with a top 10 pick. since gehrig, hamill, harvey etc only have one or two seasons left it must be tempting to trade the pick. if hawthorn was to offer two former all australian veterans for the pick would you accept?

pick 9 (stkilda) for p.everitt & j.smith (hawthorn).

i think both teams win!!!

interesting point... but i think that we don't want to fall in a heap once our premiership window closes.. we want to have a period over say 10 years were we are challenging for the cup and besides an injection of speedy youth can be invaluable to a club, we'd want to get a readymade player in the draft though.. but i spose if a great trade came up i'd be happy if we traded

It'd be pretty ordinary to give away two players while they're still good, then take them back at the twighlight of their careers. If we're going to draft veterans, please don't draft ones we've already had, it's heartbreaking enough as it is. Monkhorst is a good example, anyone remember Michael Frost? Mark McGough, and dare I say it, Matthew Capuano.

That being said, there's probably a team of players from St. Kilda who are going alright or have done so since they left. Everitt, Lockett, Hall, Joel Smith (who was good ayway, just did a knee), Heath Black's been going ok, Craig O'Brien went well at Sydney. We've offloaded some duds too though, didn't we trade Sam Cranage to Carlton?

Agree with you here. We don't want to be pinning all our hopes on the next year or two. Sydney is a great example of a team being up for 10 years and still being able to win the flag. We have already gone for a trades and drafted a few players instead of youth. However, if we are going to trade any of our draft picks trade for someone between 21-24 who can still give us 6 or 7 years.
