I was looking at the Port list and I was wondering, what do you guys think the trade value would be for these players.

Old guys - Cassisi, K. Cornes, Rodan, Surjan

Decent fringe players - Lobbe, Phillips, Hitchcock, Irons, O'Shea, Salopek, Salter

development players - Curnow, Newton, Webb, Danny Butcher, Blee, Ah Chee

Hypothetically what would you offer for certain players on behalf of your respective clubs.

im at home, and really bored.

im too young or not clued in enough to realize teams have to work themselves out of trouble, not get bought out by other teams.

our club legends at the end of their careers, fringe spuds, and young unproven talent are good enough to warrant a team giving up something that will make us better as a team, while not weakening our team by their loss, well because they are old, spuds, or young kids we are hoping to come on.

i also think justin beiber is a talented artist.

Ross, I'll answer your question as if you are being serious.

It is doubtful any of the old guys have currency, maybe last year K Cornes could have been traded to GWS but not now. It isn't that these players haven't proved they can play AFL but teams rarely trade in a 28+ player, it just doesn't happen like in the early 90s.

As to the fringe players, Lobbe might get a nibble because big guys always do but the earliest he might get traded for would be third round. Phillips isn't quite good enough to get interest, Hitchcock has avoided to many contests to have value, which is a pity because he is an OK small forward. Irons Oshea and Salter, probably wouldn't get any interest at all. This brings us to Salopek, if his shoulders can stand up, he is a quality player and would be a good loose man in defense to distribute the ball out of defense. In saying that, he would once again be lucky to grab you a pick at all so low is his currency, which is a pity, he is a top 10 pick.

Development players...clubs would just rookie list those players ( no offense) if they became available, nothing more.

Port are unlikely to trade their way out of their position but they have to assess all of their top 10 dreaft picks and getting them all on the park at once. They have the makings of a decent team but they are still very shallow for depth, so when Schultz gets injured they don't cope up forward or when Hartlett or Boak get injured, they don't cope. They need to find a way to keep those guys on the park, whilst ome of their younger draft picks get experience...it'll happen.

Ben Newton would be an option for mine, but certainly not a player to "target" as we do have a couple of like-type and I am not 100% convinced as to whether his style of play is suited to AFL. I see a lot of Brad Symes about him. Take that as you may.

As a club Port needs to move forward, that could mean trading off a older player to a club that needs them as a "quick fix" to get to a flag and in return we could get some decent picks or decent players. its all in the development of the club. Personally I think Ports rucks (Renouf and Redden) are our best 2. therefore Port could trade off a guy like Lobbe to someone in need of a ruck as I think he would be good enough to be a 2nd ruck for a club. As for the development players, I have not seen much of these guys as I do not watch the SANFL or the reserves.

Carlton ONLY recieved a 2nd rd selection for Jacobs, who is/was MILES ahead of where Lobbe is ATM. You would probably get a 3rd rd selection for him at best .........

adelaide paid massive unders for jacobs, carlton got right royally screwed over on that one (not that that's a bad thing).

I always thought Port's biggest mistake was not trading Salopek years ago when he still had decent trade value. They could have gotten a decent pick or two. I'm not sure if it was because he didn't want to leave or whatnot but his value is shot to pieces now, more fit for delisting than trade.

Lobbe would get you a few offers but why wouldn't you keep him? Has been good and seems risky to rely purely on Renouf. Same with Hitchcock. Cassisi and K.Cornes should stay. Don't make the same mistake Melbourne did by getting rid of too many experienced players too quickly.

Slim pickings after that.

You know, if his shoulders could stay intact I think he would be a decent addition to GWS. He could slot right into McDonald's role next year, being that experienced player who could give them some grunt in the midfield. I thought Brock Mclean would be ideal for that as well, but Carlton may hang on to him for another year if they don't get Cloke, considering he has done pretty well this year.

Port would get very little in return for Salopek though but maybe for the best.

I just can't see any of the established clubs going for him though. He is 27 and has been terribly injury prone with those shoulders and other setbacks. The lower-tier clubs will want younger talent and most of the upper-tier teams already have fairly impressive midfields. Maybe Essendon could grab him for insurance for a pittance of a pick, but would it really be a worthwhile endeavor? I think GWS is his best shot.

The thing is that all the players you mentioned are worth nothing.
The only players of value on Port's list are the ones the wouldn't trade, Hartlett, Butcher etc

Nahhh, Port Adelaide East got good value out of The Chad for what we paid for him, so I'd be happy if we did a deal for Kane, or indeed any of the other old guys (we'll need replacements for McDonald and Power).

It'd be a similar pack-of-Winnie-Blues-and-a-can-of-coke price though - trade of picks in the third round or a fifth straight up, or a throw-in for what you really want, which is one of the 17 year olds.
