After today's loss the club will rightfully come under the microscope and some of the hot topics will include
Game Plan
My concern, even though we have introduced new players to the team the core group have now been together for a couple of years and for what ever reason the players look confused so this raises the following questions.
1. Do the players understand the game plan?
2. Do we have the players to execute the game plan?
3. Have we become too predictable to the opposition?, I believe that we have
My other concern is that there seems to be No Plan B, over pre-season we heard a lot of noise regarding the need to stop the opposition when they get a run on, both Freo and the Swans have kicked 4-5 unanswered goals against us.
Structure
Defence - We are too slow coming out of the back half
Rucks - The club need to address our Ruck deficiencies
Forwards - Except for Petrenko we lack forward pressure which is critical in modern footy
Skill Level
For a side that trains harder and longer than most sides and simulating match conditions our skill level and decision making is very very ordinary indeed
Our List
The likes of Sellar, Cook, Douglas, Maric, Griffin and Radar have all been on the list long enough to start contributing at a higher and more consistent level, they all need to do more.
The retention of Birdman and Edwards will be closely watch throughout 2010, Edwards looks half a step behind the pace of the game and the jury is still out on Birdman
Conclusion
I believe that our game plan has become too predictable, the opposition have worked us out and we have no plan B, not to mention that we are too slow moving the ball from our defensive zone and our linkage between the midfield and forward line is extremely poor.....
At the moment the club is rightfully so under the microscope, there are more questions than answers amd we have plenty of hard work ahead
