In 2005 we had fegus watts who Neil craig didn't want to develop so he went home and Brad ottens in the 2004 trade period forced out of Richmond and we still passed! And supporters will say ben cousins on van berlo cost us or we were unlucky.

Nope we weren't unlucky, the club doesn't care much about winning premierships. They do these half rebuilds and hope to pinch one. The recruiting manager of the crows isn't a very difficult job you're basically assembling the defacto state team as that's what the crows represent.

The only thing that would have saved this rebuild was landing NAS and it turns out port had a 10 year deal on the table at 2m and we had 3 or 4 years at significantly less but 'prepared to go higher' so he signs some bizarre 2 year deal with st kilda.

Port had no hope of satisfying Saints at trade and unless NWM was happy to run the PSD gauntlet, it was never happening. 2 years gives Port the opportunity to build the war chest required to get the deal done when next out of contract.

I feel like NAS’s team fumbled it, I can’t see him form being any better than it was, unless he genuinely doesn’t want to stay in Vic for anymore than 2 years.

I don’t think anyone fumbled anything. NAS wanted home to Adelaide, but neither club had the capital to get near what was required. Role players like Ah Chee that are worth a late second get through the PSD, guns worth 2 top 10 picks do not. Eagles pick him up free and trade him for 2 firsts the next year, even if he’s sat out 2026. It was home or status quo, that was made clear early.

I was hoping Balme would give the club some tough love but he's apparently fine with the cavalcade of losers we have running our footy program.

Reality is there’s no blank cheques. We’re not a rich club and with Thebarton, we would be averse to incurring spending tax. Wouldn’t be surprised if we’d locked all our footy dept staff for multiple years when we nearly made finals.

Can’t blame Balme for not cleaning house yet, there’s other factors that would impede his free will. Concerningly though, I did hear that he believed that our minor round outcome was worthy of ignoring finals failure and deserving of club wide reacharounds though.
