but didnt centrals lose a couple on the trot (GF's that is ?) and they still ended up alright - i'm sure WWT wil bounce back and win one !

Yeh, your right. However it took 5 years and most of the squad was turned over in that period. Thats exactly what I am suggesting WWT do, turn their list over, get rid of the damaged players and start fresh, new coach, new players and a new era. I'm not saying they will never win a flag but I am saying they wont win one with this coach/squad and I will stand by it.

You can recruit all the WWT losers you like. Us Port supporters would much rather you have them than us.......:)
We only recruited then because we had Mark Mickan. Now that he is with you I am sure you will get your fair share of duds from WWT in years to come :p

Hell NO! :(

BTW What's worse-recruiting a kid from SA who turns out to be a "dud" or drafting a "gun" from interstate who goes home? Which leaves the more bitter taste? For me it's the latter......

I dont understand your point here.
What SANFL club would beat an AFL side for premiership points? None of them, hence them being in the SANFL.
So we should just draft ex AFL players who know how to beat other AFL clubs? ;)

Swoosh... straight over your head.

portentous you just drafted a WWt player in shaddock

Funny watching the named players at woodville their skill levels dropped after they went to and then got dropped from the crows
with the exception of D gallagher

Shattock is as much a product of WWT as McLeod and Buckley are of Port Adelaide. Maybe even less so.

Shattock falls under the ex-NT rule that Hentschel currently is using.

A dud is a waste of time and money, plus does nothing to achieve the ultimate aim. Total waste. A good player that gets homesick eventually still helps towards that ultimate goal.
No comparison.

Carr is gone, but he helped us win our first AFL premiership, and was a big part of it.
We also got a good trade for him, so hopefully we have used the draft picks well and may even be lucky and end up with a better player. Who knows, but at least we have a chance. If the picks end up being wasted, then it will be our own fault, but at east we got them.
Same with the Crows and Johnson/Stenglein.

Stevens and Angwin are different cases again, but there are not too many of them.
Plus, we cannot complain about home sickness. For every Stevens, Carr Stenglein etc, there are Pickett, Wanganeen, Jarman and others to balance the ledger.
It works both ways, but if the player is good, then usually there is some sort of compensation for him.

PAfolwr i think your quite right in what you have posted but the same applies to local clubs who have players drafted by the crows and the power they dont make the afl side they go back and play for WWT or whoever
Doesnt matter that they come from NT NSW QLD WA VIC if theyve palyed for a local club then they go back same thing happens when they are delisted and play sanfl tehy go back to whichever local club they started with

You are right mickyj.
What I was trying to say is that someone cannot be called a product of a club if they only played there for a season or so before being drafted by an AFL club.
However, if they ever need to go back for whatever reason, they will be their clubs. If that makes sense.

its nice to agree with a port supporter doesnt happen often
Now why does it appear that when players went to the crows and came back their skill level was way down .Everyone picks on burton now before he went to the crows he could kick 50 metre goals ,now id say he couldnt at either level

Yeah both Port and the Crows should have been having a look at a few Central players. I think Paul Thomas will be a very handy player at AFL level, he had time at both the Crows and the Power, nothing eventuated as far as getting on the main list is concerned. I cannot believe we did not pick him up or the Crows for that matter.

The reasoning given was garbage IMO. His height for AFL level and that his disposal was not up to par was a crock of BS as well. Guys like Heath Hopwood, who have trained with Port would surely be worth a punt at AFL level.

Back to the WWT topic, am I the only one who thought that Crowell looked like a reasonable prospect. I just felt he was shuffled in and out of the side and was not settled enough, chuck in the injuries and that spelt the end. I thought he would be reasonable in defence and to pinch hit up forward.

Crowell wasn't an overly good footballer but I rated him a bot higher than some others. He could do something that not many players could on our list. He could play on talla like Jonathan Brown and on smalls like Milne and do a good job on both. Had excellent pace and could kick the ball a country mile. He was never going to be a star but I think he could do a job for us in the backline and I was a bit disappointed when he was delisted.

i'm with you there - i was rather disappointed that Crowell was delisted because despite his age i still thought that he offered something the club has not been able to get since ? :

- he had the ability to play on the small quick forwards (too often have i seen Hart & others given that roll unsuccessfully)
- and he could also play on a taller person
- i guess his injury came at the wrong time and maybe the coach thought there were other players who could cover that role (shirley, doughty etc :D )

Naughty monkey just my thought but what are the ages of the CD players many came from Victoria great at SANFL or VFL maybe not upto AFL standard(i dont mean anything by saying that no doggies fans need get excited )
Just as a side note at the WWT V CD match at woodville oval when wwt won by a point former CD boardmember kept complaining about the cd palyer who plays for port DEW kept yelling for him to go back to alberton and not come back to elizabeth.
